Jack Wilshere
Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
fckin ell is there anyone you guys won't sell? Yet people have said they'd give podolski an extension!
With the homegrown rules coming in, we'll need all the English lads we can get.
Jack is a very frustrating guy, but he can still have a very productive arsenal future.

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
As Jack showed for England he can play a disciplined deep midfield, alongside coquelin. He has the quality and range of passing. Ramsey is great but doesn't posses the passing and discipline of position as Jack. I definitely would not sell Jack this summer. Makele who was the best player in that position had a similar build to Jack so that shouldn't be an issue. Just hope his ankle is fixed properly this time.

Will you two still be sYing the same when he is in exactly the same position in one year? Two years? Three years? How long before the blind faith in some miraculous physical and footballing recovery starts to run out?

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
I think one of the key differences between Jack and Makélélé is that Makélélé was smarter. As in footballing smarter. Jack nearly always tries to take on that extra man so loses possession too often. His injuries (for me) are not to do with his build so much as he also far too often holds onto the ball that instant too long, inviting the tackle that inevitably puts him out injured for long spells. If Jack hasn't smartened up to those two basic tenets of the midfield role by now, I'm not sure he ever will tbh...Nos89 wrote:As Jack showed for England he can play a disciplined deep midfield, alongside coquelin. Whilst I think Jack has great potential, I just get the feeling with him that it is only ever going to be that way. Some players just never take that step to the next level, no matter how good they look early on in their career.

The two are synonymous. Is his ability as a footballer really in doubt?
The time to give up on him isnt here yet so why have that conversation.

It's not blind faith, it's a desire to see a player who has come through the club junior and youth system actually establish himself in the Arsenal team like, for example Gerrard did at Liverpool. It's been a long time since we had a player do that at a huge club like The Arsenal. Unfortunately, the last player to come through and establish himself was Ashley Cole back in 2000. Jack should be our Xavi, he is that good. Just hope he doesn't turn out to be a Stewart Robson, great midfielder, career wrecked by injury.

All the fuss over messi's second goal vs Bayern...not too dissimilar to Jack's goal vs citeh at home, just jacks was scored from a tighter angle.

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
Having seen Jack's return, I stand by my comments. He is a talented footballer, no question. But his career is going to be blighted by, and ended prematurely by, injury - all due to his style of play. His touches and surging runs when he came on the other night lifted the game, but almost immediately he charged into a two footer, when he should have released the ball. He's brave and I like that, but he is also his own worst enemy. Sadly.DB10GOONER wrote:I think one of the key differences between Jack and Makélélé is that Makélélé was smarter. My bet is he'll be injured again before seasons end.

I think we wouldn't even be having this discussion if Jack wasn't english and came through hale end. I'd sell him tomorrow tbh. Sad to say it but we don't look good with him on the pitch. He can play, but he is crippled.

Yeah, because this forum is just full of England supporters who only want him in the team because of nationality!!Henry Norris 1913 wrote:I think we wouldn't even be having this discussion if Jack wasn't english and came through hale end. Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
alright little miss sarky, how about look at the first post on this page? Thing is it's mostly subconscious, but if you ask most gooners who their favorite player is a LOT will say jack or mention him alongside other players. Much like some were favourable with walcott not long ago. Englishness plays a big part when it comes to things like this. Not sure why you were so offended at what I said.I Hate Hleb wrote:Yeah, because this forum is just full of England supporters who only want him in the team because of nationality!!Henry Norris 1913 wrote:I think we wouldn't even be having this discussion if Jack wasn't english and came through hale end. Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
Not offended at all. If people don't rate him, that's fine. I do, however, get pissed off with people claiming the only reason we like/rate Jack is because he is English - something repeated on here often.
Perhaps, just perhaps, those of us that do rate him have based that opinion on what we've seen of him in the past, as well as what we think he could bring to the team in the future - rather than the nationality he has written on his passport?

Desire? Doesn't matter how good you want him to be, it doesn't make an iota of difference.Nos89 wrote:northbank123 wrote:Will you two still be sYing the same when he is in exactly the same position in one year? Xavi has been one of the best midfielders Europe has seen - if you think Wilshere can be that good you're beyond deluded

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
I think what most are trying to say is, his stock is very high due mostly to his nationality.
I say we capitalise on that significant bit of stock, especially now the money bags will want to appear to be in line with homegrown rule.
A good £40 mil wouldn't go amiss, surely?

Xavi didn't start getting the recognition he deserved until he was 28. Jack went toe to toe with him and matched him. Injuries have stopped him progressing.
