Funny as we never ever saw them at around Xmas time when you know, Arsenal were being humiliated and were out of the title race already
The Arsene Asylum orchestra can bleat on but I'll simply use the following:
1. Between Arsene's "hard up" years of 2006-2013, Arsenal's wage bill went up to over £130m.
Paying Bendtner £52k a week, Denilson £50k a week and Diabolical Diaby £50k a week. Arsenal's wage bill between 2008-2013 was constantly higher than Bayern's. Wenger's salary was also higher than most other managers.
And he achieved what he had to,CL qualifacation
2, "Now that Arsene has money, it's showing"
Wenger spent £100m in the past 2 transfer windows, only Van Gaal spent more. And yet...Arsenal never challenged for the league title, haven't accumulated more points than last season, and were dicked on by awful Monaco in the CL. Jose spent less than Wenger but yet breezed him in the league. But let's ignore that, as Ozil and Sanchez (combined cost of £75mil) managed to beat Reading in a semi
Comparing a club that has had over a billion pound pumped into it over 10 years to a club that has spent only 30 to 40 mill more over the last 2 seasons, beating reading is a positive for me so not going to comment on your lol, each to there own
So: that's £100m spent, no title challenge, 10 pts behind the leaders despite this amaaaazing "win streak", 11 years without a league title, no chance in the CL. But hey, guessing we moved to the Emirates "to compete for the FA Cup". Right?

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Wenger had the same opinion as you,he just wanted him on loan to see if he was good enough for the Arsenal ,but the board bought him behind his back so blame themmarkyp wrote:Who in the world would want to buy Welbeck? Oh wait it's the same guy who bought Silvestre.herbert wrote:Wenger wanted him on a loan deal but united wanted to sell ,Wenger agreed to sign him FACT
There might have been pressure from the board to sign him but the final decision was Wengers
The deal was not agreed until a few hours before the deadline, as Arsenal hardened their initial loan interest into an offer for a permanent deal. “At the start, the player was only available on loan, but after he became available to buy, I agreed,” he said,

No we have different opinions. I wouldn't even wanted him on loan. Can't blame the board to buy him behind his back as they are as deluded as Wenger.
start syphoning the profits across the atlantic and

spend the profits on a top player every season

my question to you and your fellow WUM's and AKB's is which year are you expecting us to win the league again under Wenker?? and when will we win the Cl under Wenker?? if you aren't expecting us to do so and are happy too just like the board and manager settle with mediocrity then we may as well just flatten the Emirates and wrap it up now cos wtf would be the point in carrying
This might get me accussed of being a superfan on here but I will let you into a little secret
every August I think we are going to win the cl,the league, the fa cup ,league cup, now I know that might ba a bit optimistic and often like millions of football fans my dreams are often shattered, sometimes early in the season sometimes later in the season but I will take it on the chin .
So the answer to your question is next season
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Anyone who says the board told Wenger to buy Ozil and Sanchez is clearly smoking something stronger than Old Holborn.
Ozil and Sanchez are exactly the Wenger types small with silky skills that can play tik tak !
Whilst I think he4 is past his sell by date , I've accepted Wenger will not only stay but may go on for years, its helped my sanity a lot, however some posters here are getting more and more rabid and irrational by the day judging by the above.
Whatever the reason ,this team IS going in the right direction we should rejoice not bitch about it !
I'm not confident that Wenger will either bring in the quality needed to clinch the League title or will have the tactical nous to carry us over the line because he prefers to play kamikaze football but we are closer.
One of the reasons we are closer is that this season a lot of the top teams haven't turned up , City have been Poor UTD woeful Liverpool abysmal and we've not exactly set the world alight until the race was over ,the points total says it all !
We cannot expect that situation to exist next year ,city will spend and utd will improve at some point but maybe not quite yet.
With 2 or three out of ,a world class striker ,a world class keeper (not petr czech) A world class Holding midfielder ,and a world class left back this team could win the league at a canter , with all four we could be taken seriously in Europe too !
History tells us he wont do this but I live in hope rather than expectation, you see they have fooled me again ,like they always do !

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Hang on. Are we talking about the period between 2006 and 2013 when Arsene was taking home £7million a year? When we had one of the highest wage bills in the PL season after season? When Arsene gave huge, unearned and underserved wages to rubbish like Almunia, Bendtner, Song, Denilson, Vela (the list is endless). And then long long AFTER it was obvious those players were not PL quality he extended many of their contracts and gave them pay rises? Are you seriously still trying to say we had no money in that period??LaughingGooner wrote:I guess you go along with the view that Wenger had loads of money to spend between 2006 and 2013.DB10GOONER wrote:I think in your haste to try and be a smart arse you are missing the crux of the issue here. The REASON the board might have pushed for those signings of Ozil and Sanchez was BECAUSE of Wenger fucking around for season after season after season with potential diamonds in the rough like Bendtner, Santos, Park, Denilson and the other players who proved to be bad signings. That's what the media and the fans were giving out about (obviously as well as the failure to challenge for the title).LaughingGooner wrote:Yep, that's right, Wenger had no role to play whatsoever in the signings for those two.xgtdec wrote:your kidding yourself if you think wenger was the deciding factor in either of those signings.....both were the board stepping in and doing their job by TELLING wenger he has to take them.....both at times when the club were desperate for good PR thanks to le clown bringing his good will in a truck over a cliff. I'm not obsessed with wengers mistakes like many here are. Fuck how miserable are you?!?!!
Constantly moaning about past seasons and not enjoying current form is hilarious.
Signing the likes of Sanchez and ozil is a great credit to wenger now he has money to spend but he'll never get credit from many here.
Even though he was in Brazil for the WC, while negotiations was taking place with Sanchez and his agent.
He was clearly just there for a holiday.
He's got his weaknesses Wenger, and he has made mistakes, but have a day off mate.
So if he had no role to play in those transfers, by that logic, he can't be held to blame for signing the likes of Bendtner, Santos, Park, Denilson and the other players who have proved to be bad signings. I presume you'll blame for the board for those signings.....lol lol
I say "the board might have" because no one knows for definite, just as you don't know for definite that the board didn't push for those signings. It's a theory, but given Arsene's "performance" in the transfer market between 2007 and 2013, I'd say it's a theory with a decent possibility of being true. And before you reply with your standard silly "blinkered Wenger hater" jibe, I'm no Wenger hater, I love and respect the man for what he gave our club, but I do firmly believe he is long past his best and should be replaced. I just wish he had retired on the back of the FA Cup win last year and gone with some dignity.
Yep, he had money to burn, but instead of going head to head with Jose and Fergie, he wanted to do it the hard way by taking a punt on potential (and failing admittedly often) instead of buying proven talent.
Just a funny coincidence that once the stadium was more or less paid off, he then started to spend big on Ozil and Sanchez.
But let's let the facts get in the way of a good story??
We had money, accepted not as much as the chav and later citeh, but certainly enough to sign a handful of decent players and pay them a level of wage they had earned and that they deserved. Instead Arsene pissed the money away on wages for rubbish players that would have been offloaded by any other manager years before they were by Arsene. All because his ego told him he could succeed that way. It should be Quality over quantity every day, for me anyway.
I've always said we had money during that period, and the facts prove that, the problem is Wenger spent it badly.

In that period of 2006 to 2013 AW never went head to head with either ferguson or mourinho because they both had his number marked and he was well tucked up in their pockets.LaughingGooner wrote:I guess you go along with the view that Wenger had loads of money to spend between 2006 and 2013.DB10GOONER wrote:I think in your haste to try and be a smart arse you are missing the crux of the issue here. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
If Wenger had restricted funds between 2006 and 2013 and could not buy players , surely the question is WHY ? Was it because the money was not there or because Kroenke and his poodle board wanted to maximise their profits and reduce their debt in double quick time and increase Stan's shareholding value at the same time.

Given that silent Stan didn't take over till 2011, that isn't down to him ( plenty of stuff since mind)A11M11 wrote:If Wenger had restricted funds between 2006 and 2013 and could not buy players , surely the question is WHY ? In my opinion it was twofold.
One, our very cautious board kept back plenty of dosh to have a nest egg to ensure the stadium repayments could easily be met ( even allowing for not finishing top 4, and the loss of revenue that would follow)
Two, Wenker convinced himself and the board that his ability to polish a turd, meant that there was no need to buy superstars ( we make them, remember ? )
Wenker was also convinced that economically, many top level clubs were close to financial ruin and his O' level grade C in Economics wasn't' enough to forsee that TV revenue would boom and even lower / mid table premier clubs earns fortune.
Ultimately, neither Wenker or the board were brave enough to actually go for it and the club's yearly target has been lowered to top 4 and Champions League qualification ever since.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Dont forget Wenger picking up obscene amounts of money with the much broader and easier target of only top four to achieve. A much easier gig than having to jutify your wages in terms of actual silverware.
Wengers greed mustn't be forgotten either.
