THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is certainly not planning to retire any time soon and admits he has no idea how Sir Alex Ferguson fills his time.

The Frenchman became Arsenal boss in 1996, since when the club have won three Premier League titles, five FA Cups and have competed in every Champions League competition since the 1997/98 season.

Ferguson, meanwhile, spent 27 years at Old Trafforsd before calling it a day in June 2013 and, as it happens, the Gunners travel to Manchester United on Sunday with the hosts hoping to wrestle third spot in the Premier League table from the north London club.

But despite being at the top for almost 19 years, the 65-year-old Wenger will not be joining Ferguson in retirement just yet.

He said: "Sometimes I think, 'What is he (Sir Alex Ferguson) doing all day.' But he looks very happy in his retirement.

"He is lucky because he is interested in horses as well. When he gets up in the morning, he can go to horses, practise or training."

And Wenger, who grew up in the Alsace region of France near Strasbourg, added: "I love horses as well but I don't go to races. I like horses in general because I am a farmer.

"I rode them when I was a kid but now? No, my back could not take any riding."

If only there was a friendly Ranch owner, in say Colorado, where he could see out his days ploughing fields and looking at horses, eating beans around a campfire :rubchin: :rubchin:

If there was a 'like' button on here I reckon Rodders, goonersid, augie and Ikechukwu would have pressed it by now

There is already one manager and potentially another who will be available to take over at Arsenal this summer that are ideal for the job.

So will Wenger do the decent thing and step down? Will he realise he has had more than enough time to take the club forward but has failed to do so? Will he finally prove how much he loves the club by putting their interests before his own?

Will he bollocks!!! :banghead:

If you were coining 8 million a year and could celebrate 4th place with joyous scenes such as St James's Park and The Hawthorns would you ?

No he won't because he believes the opposite. In Arsenal world, he's taking the club forward. His interests are the same as the club's interests. And whatever's he's pocketing in salary, he's worth at least twice as much to Kroenke.

They have just showed glimpses of the 8-2 defeat on Sky

That was the day when any self respecting manager would have said "you know what......time for me to go"

Still for me the lowest point in the sorry second half of his reign - worse than 4-4 at Newcastle, the Birmingham final or Bradford. Truly shameful for an Arsenal team to let in 8 goals anywhere ever

Yes agree with all of that, how he had the neck or the balls to walk into work the Monday after the 8-2 is still beyond me.

But you have to remember we had already played the biggest game of the season earlier in the week against Udinese .

Wenger is still going on about the Udinese game on the Arsenal website this morning

"Sometimes you qualify at Udinese and three days later have to go to Old Trafford with exactly the same focus. But you have more chance to lose the game than to win it so sometimes you pay the price in the Premier League"

there you go - confirmation that he placed greater priority on the Udinese game

and so the AKBs are sucked into believing that we can now mount a title challenge because we dont have to go through the 4th place play offs this year. In 2008, 2010 and 2012 we also finished 3rd....and the following season.....we finished 4th.
so that will be my prediction for 2015/16.

ps Steveo - Red? red faced? :?

Some interesting quotes in this month's four four two -

"The young fans are too patient - in our time we would react earlier"

and

"We are grateful to him - we have travelled the world winning and proud, but now it is time for him to pass it on"

These comments are not referring to wenker but are actually about berlsconi from one of the ac Milan ultra leaders, but are very similar to the sentiment of many of the older Gooners amongst us (except the winning all over the world bit obviously  ). Berlusconi revolutionalised ac Milan back in the 80s and early 90s, and they certainly won more under his stewardship than we did under le cock, but he too has had his day and the sun and the clamour for him to leave is growing - the fans there recognise the fact that no individual should be allowed trade on past glories forever

There's no clamour for Wenger to leave, mate.

I think for a substantial number of fans, the status quo of repetitive champions legaue football is the be all and end all. Seeing realtively high profile players on a regular basis. Actually, the very certainity is what they crave. And this is what Wenger delivers.

Football and football grounds (especially those among the top clubs) are being filled with consumers. They get turned on to Arsenal by the great Wenger football of the early years and that, for them, is the club. Fuck our history, fuck the community. It's all about Wenger, profits, playing "the Arsenal way" (let me just throw up  ). What little soul we had is being eroded faster than at any point in our history, as football stadiums are bedecked in mission statements and hero worship.

Fuck it.

Dear Arsene,

My back can also not take any riding, and yet just like a giant horse with a big cock...you insist on riding me...season after season. Please Arsene, just give my back a break and fuck off...my back..and a large amount of gooners backs will thank you for it!!!
