To conclude then, if we could just score a few more goals, and concede far less...we will be contenders.
Sounds like something Wenger would say!
:barscarf: :barscarf:

(Arsenal won't challenge for the title next season. Never going to happen, and my prediction is we will not see many quality additions, as the FA Cup and that end of season annual run have convinced Wenger that Arsenal are a top side - which we clearly are not.)

If that's referring to my post, then that's a dreadful interpretation mate

I clearly said a Wenger team is unlikely to ever finish above Mourinho's Chelsea. I just can't see it happening at the moment. If your interpretation of that is that we'll be contenders then that's up to you but it doesn't mean I said it.

Damn right it would be nice Victor......if ever I needed a transfer to cushion the hammer blow of Abou's likely departure it would be this one.

Without a shadow of doubt the most impressive CDM display I saw against us this season - muscle and ability unlike the lightweight Schneiderlin that everyone seems willing to blow £25m on

This one is going to be the Higuain of 2015. Definitely NOT coming

As if TO1AW would sideline his mate Giroud, Welwide and Postman Yaya. More chance of the Loch Ness Monster swimming ashore

I think Schneiderlin is a better all-round player, but Wamyama really improved last season and I think he'd be a decent addition as well.

Scheniderlin is OK but to be honest if we signed him I see him being part of the current jigsaw problem with Wilshere, Ramsey etc....he isn't different enough in that he is essentially a ball playing midfielder. Wanyama would sit alongside Coquelin and add massive steel to our midfield, but boy can he play too.

Couldn't agree more. What's hilarious about that story is the "Arsenal are locked in negotiations" bit. But why? He has a stipulated release clause. You pay the £25m and the player is yours. Simple as that. What "deep negotiation" needs to be done? Look how easily and quick Chelski wrapped up the Costa signing? :rubchin:

Still. I suppose none of the endless supply of strikers superior to Giroud and Welwide are "available"

Actually, technically speaking, no players are "available" as they're all under contract aren't they? :rubchin:
Perhaps Arsene just sits around his office waiting for that super-quality player to knock on his door and tell him he's available and looking for a team

Relying on Coquelin as the answer for a whole season is frankly comical management, if that's what he ends up doing (and I suspect he will). Like the time last summer he "gambled" on Kos-Mert spending a season uninjured.
Coquelin has shown a few months of form, he's not Matic, he's not Busquets. He's above average.

Above average is harsh on him, he's done very well and is worth his place in the team, theres no reason why he wont be better next season BUT he is not Arteta or Flamini and I fear that will be enough for Wenger.

When we relied upon Wilshere to play almost 50 games in a season 3 or 4 years ago, he suffered a serious injury at the end of that season and took the best part of 18 months to get back to anywhere near his best. Coquelin has had a good 4 months, but frankly looking to him for 50 odd games is absolute madness and a plan (or lack of) that is certain to end in disaster. In any case even if he does play a fair portion of the season wouldn't it be better to have a proper enforcer in the mould of Wanyama alongside him, rather than a square peg in a round hole like Ramsey or JW10, or an aging Arteta who still has a role to play but for a maximum of 20 games

Southampton would accept less than £20m for Wanyama and there shouldn't be a minute's hesitation......but of course there will be as that extra £2m or so will fund Stan's dividend or pay for the Diamond Club champers for another season

Now, I don't doubt for a second that Arsenal dither about and try and negotiate as hard as they can (and needlessly miss out on players because of it), but I'm certain that "locked in negotiations" bollocks is the tabloids way of making up a story without being caught out within a time frame that people will remember before moving on to the next made up transfer scoop.

The tabloids have had us linked with every striker and holding midfielder out there, so I'm not sure whether this one is real or not... and I'd imagine the tabloid don't know either. If it is, it's simply because of a lucky hit from their scatter gun make-shit-up-and-hope-it-sells-papers approach :x

Just out of interest though... rank in order of preference: Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Coquelin. :proudtosay:

I watched wanyama playing for celtic a few years ago and I thought that he was good player even then

I know I'm in the minority but I don't think a striker is our main priority.
We have goals all through the team if (and I know it's a fucking big if) we play correct formations and tactics, and rotate players according to the opposition....just because a player works well against a team one week doesn't necessarily mean he's the best option for the next game...you are allowed to change team selection for the opposition.

Our priority is a proper dm.
Wanyama, Kondogbia would do nicely...would have been happy with vidal but not so sure after cl final (can't see it happening anyway).
I've a feeling Schneiderlin might happen...he wouldn't be my choice, but still an improvement on Arteta and Flamini.

Not that it matters like; at the very least, we need to add competition for Coquelin as going into the season with 1 holding midfielder is madness.... yet completely consistent with Wenger's usual approach :x
