There's been a lot of negativity and anger from some at the prospect of not signing Schneiderlin, but hypothetically, if we signed Vidal instead, would this appease these fans?
We need someone to play as a disciplined DM, not a box to box hotheaded CM. Vidal is quality but the deficiencies need to be addressed first.
If Coquelin gets injured then who will replace him? Arteta or Flamini...

I favor Schneiderlin; he is a proven performer in the PL, but Vidal is a fantastic player, a real winner and a mate of Alexis. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if we sign him.
Also, I've just watched Portugal U21s stuff Germany 5-0. Carvalho, who has often been linked with us was brought into their team for the tournament (he's got 13 caps for the seniors) was playing and, despite Portugal dominating midfield, Carvalho was average, He's immensely strong, covers quite well, but dithers on the ball and gets caught in possession. His distribution was mixed as well.
He looked exactly as I've seen him before and I don't think he's the player we need.

I think he's at the same medical centre Kalou is at
How long is Vidal's medical taking though!
Honest to god - all of last week on Sky Sports. Sky Sports sources understand Arsenal have agreed personal terms and a fee of £10.9m for Petr Cech.
Bore off or get the fucking deal done......any news on the CDM we're being searching for since Gilberto left ?
Yes we don't need one (cdm) as we have arteta, coquelin, wilshere, chsmbersy...etc!
I had a serious man crush on Gilberto.
A friend of mine worked on a documentary about him and the Brazil squad the time they played in Dublin and he said he was an absolute gentleman. Always nice to hear things like that about your man crush

Buying Vidal is a gamble that he will settle in, adapt to the premier league ( having Sanchez here would no doubt help )
Schneiderlin is already premier league ready and would probably need no adjustment time.
Fees are broadly the same so it's a question of who does the better job in the position we need, having seen little of Vidal my preference would be Schneiderlin.
Surprised we didn't sign Schneiderlin - a few weeks back I was fairly confident of that one happening
I think it's been obvious for a few years now that Wenger doesn't want a defensive midfielder, and wants collective responsibility from a host of more attack minded players instead.
Coquelin was obviously forced upon him due to injuries, and the fact we've decided against Schneiderlin worries me, as it suggests he hasn't learnt his lesson and still doesn't see it as a key position despite the obvious improved balance Coquelin gave us.
Obviously, it may also be that he plans on giving Coq that role instead. However, I can see us signing Vidal and partnering him with Wilshere or Ramsey.

This is aprt of the reason why so many Gooners want wenger out ... he is stubborn beyond the norm - He knows he is in an unchallengeable positin and does whatever the fuck he likes - even to the detriment of the club, team and fans - and so to success.
I know Ospina is on his way out - But I wish it were the Gobby smirking eat shit and smile schezney instead ... the gobby pole could never pull off these kind of saves in a hundred life times...

I bloody wouldn't so don't presume to speak for me!!
Ozil is a luxury player whose cost we could and should have spent elsewhere in more essential positions in which we were clearly lacking. Without wanting to be as presumptive as you were, I think most on here would agree with that. And if they don't, they will be taken outside and shot!!

Well here's the logic: with Ozil in the team I've seen Arsensl get destroyed 6-3, 5-1 at Liverpool, 6-0 at Bridge, beaten by Moyes' Manure, humped by Monaco, etc.
There has not been a single big game domestically that Ozil has turned up in, and coincidentally, those are games where the likes of Mertesacker have fucked us. Having a better defender who, you know, defends well would have been of more help than a passenger like Ozil (good player he may be).
But hey, if your criteria is "names on a paper" then sure, happy to go along with your logic
United in the cup, Liverpool at home, Everton in the cup last year...those are the ones that spring to mind after thinking about it for 10 seconds.
Yeah but you would be struggling to add to that list even if given another 10 months gp543!!
Ikechukwa is right on this. Ozil HAS failed to turn up for the really big matches - FA Cup Final apart - and even some smaller ones. Regardless of what anyone thinks of his ability, the truth is he has produced too little compared to what was expected considering his reputation and price tag.
United in the Cup and Liverpool at home were both in the past 4 months...
I meant big games other than those you mentioned. I also would question your contention that he played well against United away and that Everton at home is really 'a big game'.
Ultimately though we are talking one game here or there and that just isn't good enough for the price we paid for him. As for not having the 'right players' around him as an excuse, how comes others like Santi and Alexis don't find a problem making the difference with those same options?
The bottom line is that 2 Years down the line Ozil has not thus far proved to be the star buy we all thought and hoped he would be. There is still time for him to come good but he can consider himself lucky he has played as often as he did in those first 2 seasons because his form certainly didn't warrant it.
