I do support it. That's why I've watched a few games. I hadn't seen any womens football since the Olympics and I heard all the hype about how much the women's game has progressed etc, but it's clear that the reality is very different. I was disappointed at how poor most of the skills are. They are reasonably organised at the back but the games were so devoid of skill that they were really boring. Additionally, while a few players do look genuinely talented, every team appears to have a few players who are cringingly awful.SPUDMASHER wrote:Basil is a Gooner wrote:I agree (never thought I would see the day!SPUDMASHER wrote:I'm saddened that you can't be a bit more gracious about the ladies team. It may never be as big as the mens game but then nobody expects it to be and I'm sure that those involved would be the first to say so. These women are athletes representing our country like any others in any other sport and deserve some support.)
My daughter aspires to be a professional footballer and I would like to think she would actually get some support if she was lucky enough to do so!
Don't worry, you'll recover.![]()
What bugs me most though is not the game itself, but the 'right-on' media types who (very patronsingly) prattle on about how unfair it is that Messi earns blah blah euros but the women earn less, and the women's game doesn't get the coverage it should, blah blah ...
I'm sure the women are committed to the cause and I really want the England team to win, because I'm English; just as I want the hockey, archery, wáter polo and chess teams to win. However, I won't be watching them.
