Debuchy v Bellerin?

I actually agree with what you say augie about getting over excited about players.

So for Bellerin I've got 6 months of mostly good performances and a few defensive mistakes and several incidents where he got away with fouls.

Debuchy I have in my eyes average performances in an arsenal shirt and his newcastle performances where he looked like every other newcastle player, average. Not bothered if he starts for France when players like Sissoko and Liverpool's Sakho start too.

I wonder why people have so much faith in the ex newcastle man. I see him getting beaten easily by merely decent wingers on the right flank.

Bellerin for me. Going forward he looks good and has a decent cross on him.

His pace is exceptional and last season there wasn't one big game he was involved in that I felt he was a weak link.

How long before Barca want him back?

I would be quite happy to see us mix and match depending on our opponents.

For me Debuchy has the better defensive skill set - strong tackler, decent in the air ( where we are weak at the back post) and obviously much more experienced.

Bellerin is more exciting going forward but still rash in the challenges on occasion, however his pace is a real asset.

Agree that Bellerin had earned the position but a new season.everyone starts afresh.

In another season or 2 Bellerin will be automatic first selection if he continues his development & attitude.

Great to have such healthy competition for places.

Stick with Debuchy next season, Bellerin is almost certain to have a 'second season syndrome' dip in form.

I am often wary of youung defenders who burst onto the scene with some great performances, as they frequently plateau after a couple of seasons : Players like Phil Jones & Chris Smalling got big moves after their breakthrough season, but have been pretty average since.

Going further back, someone like Wes Brown was the best thing since Bobby Moore for six months and then his form and quality fell off the edge of a cliff, and is now bimbling around at Sunderland scoring an OG every other week.

Good point. Let's all take stock a little before we get our pants wet about a guy who's just come on to the scene and is still learning the bit of the job which is primary for him.

Same logic can be applied to Coquelin, no doubt about it he has been impressive, but what cover we got if he suffers a dip in form?

Coq will get injured at some point and as it stands Wilshere, Ramsey even Arteta will play there and, 'do a job'.

Translation = Dropped Pts.

Hopefully we do something to avoid this.

Both players are very good. It's a squad thing

Wouldn't like to make the call - Debuchy or Bellerin, why not give them both a crack at the 2015/2016 season whip, there's plenty of PL and cup games to play. Bellerin is starting to have a real presence on the pitch, increased confidence, physically stronger and taller and has terrific speed especially going forward and back tracking to cover when our mini bus breaks down at the back. I'd really like to see Debuchy at his best and, of course, avoid further injuries this coming season.

I like Debuchy, proper old school right back.

Bellerin is a heck of a talent though, more of a new school right back, good going forward, but still learning.

Injuries and suspensions allowing, play Debuchy but start Bellerin in Europe and the Domestic Cups.

Sounds a bit radical, but we almost have ourselves a bit of a "Clemence and Shilton" situation.
