But I said that if the money was still available AFTER we bought a quality DM and a quality striker, then I could get on board with the fee - the problem I have is that le cock will not spend big on 3 positions in any one season much less in a single transfer window. I believe that I have consistently said all that

I kind of have to agree with augie, the fee for cech is high for his age but we could get 8 great years from him,the more worrying thing is that knowing Wenker he will see cech as the marquee signing of the summer and every other position that needs strengthening will be neglected, everybody has to admit that this is a worry, whats the odds we start the season yet again 'light' in major areasaugie wrote:But I said that if the money was still available AFTER we bought a quality DM and a quality striker, then I could get on board with the fee - the problem I have is that le cock will not spend big on 3 positions in any one season much less in a single transfer window. Agreed, but it's not quite so straightforward. Cech was under contract and Mourinho made it clear that he didn't want Cech to leave and especially to a rival. It's not like we've prized Messi from Barca, but Cech's a very good player, bought at a good price, against the wishes of his manager and will definitely improve our team, so why are so many posters so negative about it?
There's at least four posters who have made negative comments about the signing of a world class keeper.
When you say that, are you suggesting that those people are against the signing of cech ? I have consistently said that I feel that cech is an upgrade on what we have and that his experience could be a big plus for us, but I also said that I think that the price was too steep for a player of his age, so does that mean I am opposed to signing him ? Is this a case, as I suggested previously, that a fan has to be 100% in agreement with every detail of this deal or else he will be viewed as being opposed to it ?
Read my posts.
I haven't said people came out against it, but there have been lots of comments saying he's too old, too expensive, that he's not that good (e.g. I think somebody said he was no better than Begovic).
Everyone's entitled to their opinion; mine is that it's very good business and we should be happy with his arrival. It doesn't mean we can't then gripe about the lack of an ST, DM and CB, or with AW's performance in general.

Re: The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread
it's an interesting quandry, the price we payed for Cech.
On first viewing 11M may seem high for him but putting it into context if we get up to 7 good years out of him that's roughly 1.6M per year.
To get the same out of Ozil he'd need to play for us for 26 or so years, Sanchez would have to play for nearly 22 years.
Personally i think 11M may be a little high for a 33 year old but if he saves us 12-15 points per season then looking at it realistically it's actually a steal

Although, I see a top goalkeeper as an equally important (if not more important) signing as a DM. A striker is a must though.
As for the fee... I genuinely don't see the issue. £11m to sign a player who will get into your starting XI is reasonable. Plus he has vast experience of winning stuff!
33 isn't young, but Lehmann was 33 or 34 when he signed and he was a superb addition and played at a high level for several seasons. If Cech has a similar impact then it's a bargain for the good he'll do us.
And £11m isn't a huge amount these days. We throw more than that at squad players like Chambers and Welbeck. As do most top clubs.
Also, we have plenty of money in the bank so this shouldn't stop us signing a top striker... if we can find one that is

Re: The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread
Man Utd haven't signed Schneiderlin yet so there's still a chance for us to get in there but I wonder if we're interested or have the ability to compete in a transfer battle.

I think most people are chuffed we've got Cech. Don't mind if people have some misgivings but I think it's overwhelmingly positive.

I agree with g88ner. £11m is peanuts for the quality we are getting - even if he only gives us 3 or 4 years (rather than 7 or 8 as has been mentioned), His signing will definitely help the team get better and hopefully have success in the immediate/medium term. That will do for me.g88ner wrote:Fair enough.augie wrote:But I said that if the money was still available AFTER we bought a quality DM and a quality striker, then I could get on board with the fee - the problem I have is that le cock will not spend big on 3 positions in any one season much less in a single transfer window. Not been on here much but from looking at a few posts about Schneiderlin he is the classic sort of player which people moan if we sign but if we let him go elsewhere he would suddenly have been the ideal answer to our problems...
Personally don't rate the guy. He ain't even the best player in his position at Southampton in my opinion!
Coquelin has earned the right to be fighting for a first team place but I don't think it's an either/or with him and a new DM. Playing with two deeper-lying CMs who also both have decent ball-playing ability may just allow the remaining 4 attacking players the licence that they actually need. And would offer a lot more versatility tactically.

Anyone having any misgivings about Cech joining just think about how pissed off that rotten prick Maureen is that he's joined us and laugh your blues away. He must be fucking seething that he hasn't moved abroad. WANKER

I've said this kind of thng before. Coquelin is not devoid of technical ability and seemed to be able to knit the play quite well. Add another and surely we've still got enough attacking players (if you include the full backs)northbank123 wrote:Not been on here much but from looking at a few posts about Schneiderlin he is the classic sort of player which people moan if we sign but if we let him go elsewhere he would suddenly have been the ideal answer to our problems...
