As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I find Podolski's stay at Arsenal to have been one of complete frustration. Just imagine how a proven German international felt seeing a supposed top class manager placed more faith in a would be postman.
I'm loathe to do this but I agree with Wenker on this one. Considering the system Arsenal play, Podolski simply wasn't good enough to play the line frontman. Physically weak, can't hold up play, link-up play is poor, doesn't win anything in the air, doesn't have pace, doesn't make runs, doesn't have a work rate of any kind.
What he does have, is a very hard shot that is occasionally accurate. But let's face it PL defenders would have marked him out of every game easily. The decision to not play him as number 9 is correct. The Mistake, was knowing our system, which "genius" thought it'd be a good idea to sign him up on £100k p/w wages, and not deploy him in a front 2, which is the only way he is of any use...

100%. I'll always feel we didn't get anywhere near what we could and should have out of Pod. Wenger absolutely misused him. I maintain he would have been lethal played up front in a 4-4-2. To see the Postman SaNoGoals selected repeatedly ahead of Pod was criminal. But tbh if Wenger isn't going to use him to the best of his ability then we might as well cut and run and let him get on with his career.
Eduardo was treated the same way for most of his Arsenal career. Even before his injury when his finishing was clinical, he still spent most games on the left wing.
Arsenal's lone striker system doesn't suit a fox-in-the-box type player . No doubt Inzaghi or Fowler would have been on the wing for us too.
I don't have a problem with playing a lone striker, but it's a specialist role that Drogba, RVP and Diego Costa thrive on, so either sign a specialist (difficult) or adapt your system for the players you've got and the players you sign.
(or quit and give another manager a chance )
With the exception of ramsey (maybe), I cannot think of even one player that wenker's system/formation suits - of course playing one of ozil/cazorla in the no.10 role would suit them, but the other gets shafted out to the wing as a result The list of current and past players that would benefited from a change to 4-4-2 would be huge but as we all know, le cock feels that he knows best and continues with the round pegs square holes bullshit

Whether in this case he's right or not, it still seems quite a reasonable thought process to me
Surely, 99 times out of a hundred, a new contract in June (unless evoking a clause in a contract, as per Rosicky) generally means a player isn't sold a few weeks later?
Alt Madrid sniffing round Santi, I think a new deal should be offered to him to show his worth
He's been in the Barca team for a long time without ever seeming to be first choice. He's very skillful, quite small (sound familiar?) and has decent stats, but, for me, he won't address striker, DM or CB weaknesses, so I can't see why we would want him.
