Maybe that's why we signed Gabriel Paulista in January; long term replacement for Mertersacker?Henry Norris 1913 wrote:if we don't replace bfg this summer, its crazy. lets be honest he's been going downhill for a while

He is a guy that never seems to be happy when I see him - today after the game he didn't seemed to be involved with the banter/messing/chatting between the players and to me he looked like a loner not part of the group. Maybe it is a language issue with him, or maybe he isn't happy with the lack of playing time he is getting (understandable imo), but he just never strikes me as a guy that is going to be a part of the club in the long term

Interesting. I'd never given it much thought really.augie wrote:g88ner wrote:Maybe that's why we signed Gabriel Paulista in January; long term replacement for Mertersacker?Henry Norris 1913 wrote:if we don't replace bfg this summer, its crazy. lets be honest he's been going downhill for a while

It's always understandable to be unhappy at lack of playing time, but in Gabriel's case I'd say he struggled to get in because our forum picked up hugely after Christmas, as there was little reason to change a winning formula after months of us playing utter crap.

Also, from memory, I think Gabriel did start games after Mertesacker's Monaco disaster, but he then got injured (hamstring?) and allowed Mertesacker back in.
It'll be interesting to see what happens in the early part of the season, because if Gabriel is sub again I'd say our search for a quality centre back to play alongside Koscielny continues.
- but for now, I'll just hope that Gabriel has a bright future

DM position solved.
I'd forgotten Illarramendi. He's like Coq, but better in every respect.
He was excellent at Bilbao, he became the most expensive Spaniard bought by Madrid, but the fans a very 'meh' because he's not a sexy player like James or Kroos.
He didn't get a lot of game time so he could be open to a move. Plus, we've more Spanish players than Madrid so he would feel at home.

Another short arsed interceptor type midfield who will be unable to physically dominate his opponents - not what we need imo

I haven't posted on here in a while, but again we see the crazy logic of Wenger. We sign a quality Gk, but ignore the need for a world class striker. Wenger will be able to convince the AKB'S that Giroud is the next pele, but anyone with logic knows he is an average player, who shouldn't be at the club. Considering city and United are both spending big, we will back at home in 4th by the end of the season.
Re: The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread
Never know, you might just be waiting for the right deal to come off. If you could get someone like Benzema I reckon you'd be challenging for the title even if it was your only major signing, might just be a case of waiting until later in the windowBFG4 wrote:I haven't posted on here in a while, but again we see the crazy logic of Wenger. I'd add Liverpool to that too as they have added some decent players, decent enough for a 4th spot anywayBFG4 wrote:I haven't posted on here in a while, but again we see the crazy logic of Wenger. Not sure about the comments on Giroud, that he shouldn't be at the club, that seems a bit harsh, but yes if we are to push on and really challenge for the title, we need a top quality mobile striker, someone to bring the best out of Ozil who is a true quality playerBFG4 wrote:I haven't posted on here in a while, but again we see the crazy logic of Wenger. As said previously not confident Wenger will add to his squad, DM, CB and striker all needed, as previous posters have said his fatherly management style is all very well showing loyalty to his current players, but his paymasters at the end of the day are the Club and fans, he should be ruthless in his pursuit of a League title.
Lets be honest he got lucky with Coquelin,a position that has not been addressed since Vieras departure, that has been a prime case of his acute stubborn nature, because it is so obvious he will not do it....Coquelin went some way to adding some protection to our defence, and stopped us mainly becoming over run and totally embarrassed with several thrashings, not saying Coquelin is the answer though we will see next season
This has to be the most frustrating time as with these additions he could be on the verge of a truly great team, we he do it, we already know the answer
The battle for fourth place is on, this is no formality either, not by a long way......
No Fourth place and no FA cup then Wengers position will become untenable

He who hesitates is lost

To be fair, who can he be waiting on ? Quality players do not stay on the shelf for long and everyone can see that the chavs and citeeh are now upping their transfer market urgency and manure are already way ahead of us in their summer dealings, so what are we waiting for ? There are very few top quality strikers and DM's that are gettable in world football and we should be FAR more aggressive in the transfer market than we are - please don't believe all the bullshit about what we might be doing behind the scenes because I don't know any transfer in England that happens without some public talk of it happening.
