Wenger will be able to convince the AKB'S that Giroud is the next pele, but anyone with logic knows he is an average player, who shouldn't be at the club. Considering city and United are both spending big, we will back at home in 4th by the end of the season.
Never know, you might just be waiting for the right deal to come off. If you could get someone like Benzema I reckon you'd be challenging for the title even if it was your only major signing, might just be a case of waiting until later in the window

He who hesitates is lost 8)

To be fair, who can he be waiting on ? Quality players do not stay on the shelf for long and everyone can see that the chavs and citeeh are now upping their transfer market urgency and manure are already way ahead of us in their summer dealings, so what are we waiting for ? There are very few top quality strikers and DM's that are gettable in world football and we should be FAR more aggressive in the transfer market than we are - please don't believe all the bullshit about what we might be doing behind the scenes because I don't know any transfer in England that happens without some public talk of it happening.
You say that, but (if you're sad enough) check out the transfer thread leading up to Sept 1st 2013. I did just now () because I seemed to remember very little being said about Ozil before his whirlwind signing.

And it's true, there's the odd mention but nothing more until a couple of days before he signed. In fact, 4 days before we signed Ozil you said people were beyond help if they thought we'd sign anyone of note :D

And SteveO did his usual thing of saying "Ozil isn't coming" and I'd written that Id given up hope of us signing anyone.

Point is, we don't know and we won't know until the window shuts. And if we didn't know 4 days before the end of the window, then how can we possibly predict it 5-6 weeks earlier?

Also, you say quality players don't stay on the shelf for long - I agree! ( :barscarf: ) but it's worth qualifying that by adding that those players go on the shelf at different times in the window.
Ozil, Bale and Di Maria signed very late in the window, and I'm sure there's endless more examples.

That said, most of the top players that come to mind did sign early in transfer windows  so you still have a point

Liverpool meet Benteke's £32.5m but-out clause.

It's a lot to pay for an inconsistent, if physically imposing, purple-patch type of striker.

Anyone think it'd be worth gazumping Liverpool on the deal?

Had previously thought he would be a good purchase for us a year or two back but last year against us, and in the cup final ( :barscarf: ) in particular he did nothing at all.

I don't tend to watch much of other teams anymore so he may still be a decent acquisition but at £32.5 m very overpriced and for a few more million that we have sitting unused in the bank we could possibly get ourselves a top, top, super quality player that would improve us considerably.

Hate to think it but with Sanchez, Giroud, Ox, Welbeck and Walcott as a any 3 from 5 option and Gnabry and Akpom as back up options I think we are doomed to stick with what we have.

yes, Villa is a shit club to play for with a shit atmosphere around it for a few year so I wouldn't blame a player not to be in form. Benteke is a quality player, wait and see him score 20+ goals next season

He's like a poor man's Greedybarndoor - £32.50 would be too much for him. Total waste of space and will be the next Balotelli for the Mickeys

The funny thing for me about benteke's move to victims, is that they basically got £34.2m (after you take out qpr's £9.8m cut) for sterling, and now they are spunking all but £2m of that on a lazy striker who has done nothing to suggest that he is top level quality  Personally I would think splashing £15m on a striker like greedybarndoor would make more sense - both have questionable attitudes but at least greedy has proven that he can do it (if the mood suits him) at the top level, and at half the cost would make a more sensible gamble imo

I'm also inclined to agree; a lot of money to pay for someone who thrives on crosses. He does know he's moving to Liverpool, doesn't he?

The Victims currently have Benteke, Sturridge, Ings, Lambert, Ballotelli, Borini and Origi competing for the No.9 shirt. None of them are effective out wide, so unless the Messiah Rodgers reinvents the 4-2-4 systems they'll be a lot of expensive benchwarmers.

I'd forgotten Illarramendi. He's like Coq, but better in every respect.

He was excellent at Bilbao, he became the most expensive Spaniard bought by Madrid, but the fans a very 'meh' because he's not a sexy player like James or Kroos.

He didn't get a lot of game time so he could be open to a move. Plus, we've more Spanish players than Madrid so he would feel at home.

Another short arsed interceptor type midfield who will be unable to physically dominate his opponents - not what we need imo
Physically he's not Martinez or Wamyama, but he is strong in the tackle and would be a big upgrade on Coq.

Look at the poll underneath - who is better at football Lionel Messi or Nicklas Bendtner. The men in white coats are looking for the one voter who voted for Lord Bendtner.....currently believed to be in the Sunderland area :D

Yes, but he's a 5' 8'' central midfielder.

Sound familiar?

Moutinho, along with his portugese team-mate veloso, was one of the most coveted centre midfielders in Europe 2 or 3 seasons ago - in my opinion both chose to move for the big bucks and as a result have spent the last couple of seasons playing in less high profile leagues and this has taken both out of the spotlight. To my (albeit limited) knowledge, moutinho is an all round midfielder instead of the big physically dominant DM that we both believe we need, but by all accounts is still a very, very good player 8)
Under any other manager we would totally dismiss this rumour because we already have many similar players, but under this clown.......he is probably having a medical as we speak
