Arsene Wenger says Lord Harris went "a bit overboard" in claiming only two players are now outside Arsenal's price range.

The Arsenal director told Friday's Daily Mail newspaper the funds are in place to bring in anyone bar Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, adding there was "£200m in the bank".

Wenger laughed off Harris' comments at his pre-Emirates Cup press conference but did not deny outright the board member's other claim that Arsenal are chasing a new striker.
Ah yes - as predictable as night following day, the old "we can sign anyone we like apart from one or two players" is tripped out to keep us all eager !

Equally predictable will be when the season kicks off and he's failed to add a single outfield player and we'll soon hear:

"If we find something interesting we will do it"
"We work day and night scouting every single player"
"Only interested in world class players"
"The first priority is to keep the squad together"

Am as big a critic of wenker and the club as anyone anywhere, but I still don't have an issue with the + £1 bid - suarez has an escape clause and we triggered it by offering the + £1 bid so what more could we do ? Should we have offered another million for the craic ? If we did, how many people on here (including myself) would be complaining about spending a million that we didn't need to spend ? The real issue here should be the fact that the scousers had no right to turn down the bid and actually breached his contract by doing so

That's exactly what I thought as well, but didn't raise the point as I wasn't 100% sure about it. Anyhow Augie, don't let the little issue of FACT get in the way of a good old Wenger bashing :barscarf:

How much did Barca end up paying for Suarez again? Or is it that the same clause didn't apply to them?

Bit of a strawman claiming that anyone here would have had a moan had we paid a million pounds over the supposed release clause for Suarez. Quite obvious that we found out in a bit dubious manner about said clause, which might be why there was fuck all we could have done about the victims' breaching whatever guideline.... well, fuck all except returning with an improved and proper offer - nothing resembling the embarrassing +1 quid Wenger served up initially.

Let's not act as if we wouldn't have wanted our club to tell some smart ass to go fuck themselves, had the situation been reversed, whether or not clause had been met.

We might well have wanted to tell the buying club to fcuk off BUT, legally we would not have been entitled to do so - if the victims were stupid enough to put such a low get out clause in a players contract, then it is they and they alone who should feel embarrassed. I believe that if we had not got such a tightfist reputation in our transfer dealings, no-one would have given a fcuk about the + £1 part of the bid - because we continue to behave small time in the transfer market, this episode was blown up more than it should have been imo

Where I do feel that we went wrong, is that we allowed the victims to turn us down - usa is the epicentre for litigation in the world, and there is no way that we should have allowed their yank owners to reject our bid when legally they had no right to do it. It doesn't matter how we found out about the clause, the point is that it was there and if GG, moaninho or ferguscum was our manager, there is no way that they would have allowed us to walk away with our tail between our legs like wimps

No, the same clause didn't apply to them. Suarez signed a new contract at Liverpool after we bid for him. The clauses were all revised which is why Barcelona ended up paying what they did.

I think we should just all be very grateful for the fact that we 'nearly' signed Suarez. If we hadn't moved stadium then we never have had such quality of virtual signings

My apologies Augie, I was agreeing with you and not taking a swipe at you.
My post should have read "others don't let the little issue of FACT get in the way of a good old Wenger bashing"

Lol - Reus is coming for £50 million
