As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

My apologies Augie, I was agreeing with you and not taking a swipe at you.
My post should have read "others don't let the little issue of FACT get in the way of a good old Wenger bashing"
It's not as simple as that mate.
The information that we do have is that Suarez was open to a move to Arsenal and Liverpool would have been moved to selll at around £50m+. Confirmed by Amy Lawrence and National Journalists covering Liverpool.
How open he was is unclear.
The question of legal action is a red herring. Premier League clubs wants to avoid that at all costs so as not to open a can of worms.
The clear thing is that we didn't push it. And Liverpool would surely have had to accept a lower figure than they would ideally have liked to avoid the legal action you mention, if this would ever be on the table as just a threat.
It's not Wenger bashing. It just appears to show that what we did was limp.

Thank you. Like I said, One bid and one bid only was made. That was it. If the fee had gone up to £50m then Liverpool would have sold. The fact is, Wenger and the club let Liverpool bully Arsenal and take the moral high ground - if we had a legal right then why didn't Arsenal threaten legal action on Liverpool?
Nope. Instead we left it at one bid, when Liverpool said no Wenger walked away. Those are the Facts.
The transfer is expected to complete on the same day that Elvis is found running a café on Mars
The mutant bar that schwarzenegger went into in mars seemed a decent spot - the birrd with the 3 titties looked a bit weird, but the rest of them looked decent enough (except the midget obviously). I think that opening a cafe anywhere near there would be a bad business decision by elvis but maybe I'm wrong

Suarez didn't want to come to Arsenal, there was only one club he wanted to play for after pool and that's where he is now. If we had tabled £50m and the offer was accepted you can be sure that would have alerted Barca for a snatch and grab.

In the end he left with minimal fuss, which suggests there was some agreement between Pool and Barca. All this bollocks about his behaviour (biting at the world cup) being unacceptable to Liverpool is utter bollocks. I mean did they even resist Barca, hell no.

And your sources? I'm going on informed sources, mate. Your's is a hunch. Maybe it's right but why not end up in Barcelona that summer?
Even if for only 1 season. he might have come to our place.

Don't need any sources, its football logic. Suarez would have been signed on a long term deal which would have made his transfer value astronomic. His desire was to play for Barca, like a lot of players of Latin American origin and most definitely not Arsenal.
So tell me why would he come to Arsenal first and not go direct to Barca, it doesn't make any sense.

Legal action? most clubs don't want to go down that road so don't paint it as a weakness. We should have upped the bid if we were genuinely interested; that was the weakness of our Suarez pursuit.
Anyway, there was a poll on here at the time of the £40m+£1 bid and surprisingly 60% didn't want Suarez if the cost was above £40m (37% didn't want him at any price) yet you can bet the same people bemoan our lack of a world class striker. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36439&p=850041&hilit=suarez#p850041 (see poll at top of page)
Genuine world class strikers are few and far between, so surely you have to push the boat out when one is available.

Again - why didn't he go to Barca in that summer then?

Yep, that's right.
Even at the risk of getting knocked back later in the process.

not as weird as the dude with a vagina for a face
Poor Arnie didn't know if he should punch him or bring him out to dinner

Totally agree - the suggestion that suarez wouldn't come is based on nothing and if anything is probably wide of the mark because joining a champs league club would have been important for him. Barca may have always been his number 1 choice but at that time they weren't in for him and if it was a straight choice between the victims and us, most ambitious footballers would pick us. If barca had of came in for him then it would have thrown a spanner in the works for sure, but the point is that we as a club had to do everything we could and then if it didn't happen then we could say that we done all that we could.
Btw I would love to see what have happened if villa had of rejected benteke's 32.5m bid - the issue with the clause would not have been dropped I can assure you of that

You think that football has logic looool. To answer your question Pool clung onto Suarez like a leech when we made our bid, last summer they had all but given up especially after bitegate episode 2. This bollocks that Suarez would have come for 1 or 2 seasons is just another stick to beat Wenger with imo.
