For the record I am far from dismissing our midfield and I actually believe that we are just a top quality, physically imposing, DM away from being real challengers for the league 8) What I am saying though, is that matic and cesc are better than anything we currently have in those positions - that is by no means a disgrace because they are both top quality players
Watch the ox this season mate. If he can keep fit I sense he will have a blinder.

As for Cesc, we've discussed that a million times I am gutted he never came back.

Think you are right there, but you only need Cesc to have an off day/ feel a bit intimidated by the occasion for the balence to alter- changing the subject a bit  why did Matic leave The Chavs for the seasons he did (For a huge loss meantime) then come back? If we had carried out that sort of business we would have been slating AW mercilessly.

ah super fan award goes to you then......

As for challenging for the title dream on mate, yeah Quality DM would be nice, won't happen though Wenger does not recognise that position....Top 4 is most you could hope for with Giroud and Wellback upfront

prediction Coquelin will loose form or get injured then we are fucked again

It's amazing how I can predict the future. Clearly I am in the wrong vocation.

If half you lot where supporting Arsenal in the 80s you'd probably be jumping off Tower Bridge by now.

true so true, I admit I've had and got some harsh views on arsenal and wenger ..... But even I admit we were fucking shite in the early 80s,

In general, comparing now with the 1980's is futile. Different times with different expectations and different cause and effect. In the 80's there was constant moaning about our state of affairs, the difference was you heard it at games and in pubs because there was no internet. Nowadays everybody has the option to post their opinion online and it gives the impression that moaning about The Arsenal is a new phenomenon - it ain't.

Also, it must be remembered that during that bad spell in the early to mid 80's the club was less of a business entity and more of a football club. Fans didn't feel disconnected from the club because of serious overpricing of tickets and players becoming overnight millionaires no matter how shit they were - you could relate to most of the players. Nowadays most players come across as aloof arrogant mercenary cúnts that don't give a flying shit about their club, just themselves and their bank account. Now, I know players have always cared about the money, let's not be naïve, but it just seems that the mercenary cúnt to loyal player ratio has swung over to mercenary cúnt with a vengeance today. :|

We also didn't pay a manager £7million a year to deliver nothing for the best part of a decade.

The ticket pricing is something that must be considered I think. We currently price our tickets like a club with serious ambition and aspiration. Our club generates expectation because of this, but fails to deliver on that season after season (up until the limited success of the 2 recent FA cup wins). Can you imagine Stoke charging their fans what we do and delivering what they do? There would be blue murder. Back in the 80's we didn't overprice our tickets in comparison to what we delivered so our expectations were probably lower by a good amount.

First Arsenal away game, early 1970s at the Bridge, walked up behind the East stand, to the top looked around, Chelsea in the covered end on the right....but looking over at the North stand, a swirling mass of colour and noise, that was it hooked ever since

Think we won that day, usually did at Chelsea, Charlie George, Ray kennedy, guessing there.....coming out remember a hail of missiles greeting us just as we got to the main road gate, then the Arsenal charged after Chelsea down a road off Fulham Broadway, with the old bill trying to keep up...happy days

1980 we finished 4th
1981 we finished 3rd
1982 we finished 4th

the only difference between Arsenal now and the early 80s (and we also won the cup in 79) is that ticket prices are ridiculously high and prestige is attached to "qualifying" for a european competition. In 1980 we even managed to reach a european final! :rubchin:
