West Ham at the Olympic Stadium "rent free"

Post by nut flush gooner »

Just seen a documentary about Worst Ham and the Olympic stadium deal.

Given the amount of money clubs like Arsenal even the Spuds have put into new stadia and the surrounding areas, this just seems wrong. West Ham were bought by the Porn Kings for £100m, today even before they have moved they have been valued in the region of £400m. It looks like the other local clubs especially Leyton Orient will be absolutely shafted by the initial ticketing policy of West Ham, which will be to offer season tickets starting from £99 per season for juniors.

So here we have a premiership club effectively subsidised by the taxpayer.

The clubs move to the Olympic Stadium also makes them ripe for an overseas takeover by a rich billionaire. Gold and Sullivan must be licking their lips.

You’re right; it’s a total stitch-up.

The only plus is that Bilic will get the scumbags relegated and they’ll be playing in a soulless, half-empty bowl in div 2.

West Ham will pay their way to an extent, it is not a total free lunch.
But it is a result for the Hammers.

Do I blame the porn magnets?

Not at all. They have had a golden handshake land in their laps, if you'll allow for my mixed metaphors!

It is a government balls up, a right mess.

They were scared stuff about not leaving an "Olympic Legacy" so went for this option.

I reckon they'll do a decent job of filling it too, but selling £5 and £10 tickets and having family schemes etc.

It's a joke but rest assured that West Ham will manage to piss away every benefit this chucks their way.

All they need to do is hold on until they get into the new stadium. Then everything changes, revenue sharply increases allowing them to promote West Ham on the global stage. They even changed their club crest with the word London on the bottom, this is clearly part of a worldwide marketing strategy.

Within a few seasons they will be in a position to promote the club as top 10 rather than lower mid table. Bilic is on a different level to Big Fat Sam, is respected in the game and will attract talent to the club.

How are West Ham paying their way? Their contribution to the refurbishment of the stadium is negligible. Perhaps the cost of an average Premiership player, no more.

The rent is being subsidised by the taxpayer, because West Ham are not paying for the policing costs amongst other things.

its not fair, but spurs have not put much money in to theirs yet, also they wil be getting significant public funds too, which is a complete travesty. at least the olympic stadium existed for a reason, and thus is clear why public paid, but the spurs stadium exists only to benefit them, yet gets public money. its a typical underhand scum trick, just like resubmitting the plans once they had approval to make it slightly bigger than the emirates.

arsenal should appeal for retrospective public funds in line with what the scum get as its completely unfair.

leaving aside all the payment/cost issues we have to face the fact that both West Ham and Spurs will be different propositions in their new stadiums and are unlikely to adopt the penny pinching tactics that Arsenal have got away with in the last decade.

We will still be in a stronger position than them but whereas I havent really seen either as rivals in the past they may well become that in the years to come.

West Ham are renting. Plain and simple. They don't earn hardly anything out of the stadium which is why it cost them very little to take up. They'll sell Upton Park and make it into housing etc to generate a few quid but they are already so far behind other clubs it'll do very little over time.

As far as "penny pinching" at Arsenal, I suggest you watch what Spurs do once they eventually get to developing WHL. You have little to compare to because Arsenal are one of very few that have been able to develop their stadia in the modern day, let alone London.
