THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

:duh: :duh: :duh:

This is of course the first in 3 seasons season where we havent bought big, or at all really. He does put himself right in the firing line when our tired mentality gets found out again. Still 2 whole seasons on his contract though is it

Cant see him resigning at all,nor the sack its a desperate desperate situation for the thinking mans Gooner.

In fairness, Wenger did ask Gary Neville to back up his comments...

Ouch.

Spot on though. Especially this bit...

The type of player I’m describing is not easy to come by. I accept that. To find them in the next two or three days would be hard. Over a 10-year period, though, you would have thought it possible to overcome a clear, obvious deficiency that everyone can spot. You don’t need to have played in the Premier League to see it. But somehow they need to bridge that gap and find those players.

You're too late. Peter Hill-Wood has gone :barscarf:

Sadly we're still left with the stubborn, arrogant old git and the wig-wearing old git. :x

Much as i can't stand him, he's a player who played successfully for 19 years in EPL under arguably (i can't believe i'm going to admit this) the best Manager in the EPL so far and is himself an England coach, i've read the article a few times and i watched the discussion during the match i really can't fault anything he's said.

I'll give kudos where it's due he is the first pundit who's actually really had the balls to stand up and say what many of us have been moaning about for a long time and point out the glaring faults in AWs management methods.

He's also right about one other thing that has really pissed me off for a while which AW has continually spouted as proof that he knows best '30 years in management', it's a load of crap you don't have to be a manager or a player to know when things aren't working, for :cussing: sake i'm fairly sure i'd know if the pilot of a plane wasn't very good and i'm not a pilot.

And this bit for me...
That’s my sense of Arsenal. The other night Thierry Henry talked about joining the club in 1999-2000 and how Martin Keown and Ray Parlour explained to him what it meant to play for ‘the Arsenal.’
I doubt we have one player now who wears the shirt with pride.

I think Gibbs, Wilshere and Theo know what it means to wear the shirt as would Jenkinson. But that was the old Arsenal. The New Arsenal is Wenger era, with DNA of old Arsenal. Don't be fooled we are, as a club, still a cut above the rest.

August 2005. 10 years ago...........
The missus had thrown me a surprise 40th birthday party in our house. Friends and family were there and drinking and hilarity ensued. Fun was had by all.
We had gone unbeaten 2003-2004 and managed to fluke the FA Cup 2005 on pens just a few months before my surprise party.

Remember having a convo with my brother-in-laws girlfriend (family are spuds but shes a bit of an Arsenal admirer) about Arsenal and Wenger. I remember it well. She couldnt believe it when I dared to suggest that Wenger had taken us as far as he could and needed to go. I felt that with a few good signings we could be dominant in the Prem and win CL trophys going forward but I couldnt see Wenger making the necessary changes to propel us from good to great.

Fast forward 10 years and couple weeks ago, guess what?............
The missus threw me a surprise 50th birthdy party in our house. Friends and family gathered and drinking and hilarity ensued. Fun was had by all.

The brother-in-law and his girlfriend now have an 8 year old little boy but have split up and have new partners. But hey, guss what.........?

Wenger is still lingering at Arsenal like a bad smell. We've just won the FA Cup, just like 10 years ago, and would you Adam-n-Eve it? We still need a few good signings to take us to the next level. To take us from top four also rans to actual, legitimate contenders.

Heres to the next 10 years under Wenger. :suicide:

The worst thing that could of happened was Gary Neville's criticism after the Liverpool game (he was spot on btw). That kind of talk infuriates Wenger no end and now he'll dig his heels in. To go out and buy now would come across as Wenger taking advice from lowly pundits who are not nearly as smart as him. And Wenger does NOT take advice. So now he'll go out to prove them all wrong. And fail. And be completely unaccountable. Oh, and Theo, you are NOT a C/F
