Was quite impressed with Coquelin today. Not the most challenging game he'll ever have but so many times he stayed on his feet and worked hard to get back on the right side of the man instead of making a stupid foul.
The only times we chose to shoot around the box we nearly scored once (Walcott sitter) and scored the other.
So unimpressed with Giroud again. He was comfortably through on goal and managed to get tackled by the full back on about 75 minutes. How can anybody expect us to be champion-material with this oaf and Walcott who is utterly ineffective 80% of the time as our striking options?
World class striker would bring us 10 points a season and even with our other frailties would make us genuine contenders.
Giroud clean through on goal mid way into another teams half, also means Giroud caught up by defenders by the time he gets to the penalty box.
An okay performance, but we were never in any danger of throwing away 3 points.
I'd love a top, top striker but we're in pretty good shape.
We'll improve during sept, can't wait for the Stoke game.
its not fair to slate Walnut, not when the team is set up to play to Giroud,it doesn't matter who the fuck plays up top for us right now they wont be that effective because we play to suit Giroud.Walcott was making ineffective runs the whole game, innefective because he was making runs that Giroud doesn't make.it would be like Henry being our striker then chucking Giroud up there but the team throwing balls over the top for him to run onto ala Henry.until we adapt to playing a system to suit which striker is playing then its pointless even wanting another striker brought in,you need to play to the strikers strength and at the moment the team seem to be unflexible, its Giroud or nothing
Not saying it's the most conducive system for a striker to play in but "doesn't matter who plays up front" is complete and utter bollocks.
Van Persie was sheer class in 11/12 in the worst, least inspiring and least creative side we have had in two decades. The bloke created chances and scored goals out of nothing and the system hardly "suited" him.
I'm all in favour of tactical versatility but that's no excuse for the sheer mediocrity of the likes of Giroud. Change the system to fit class players, if you're thinking about changing the system to accommodate shit players then you need to fucking sign someone.

my point is you need to play to the strikers strength and one game up front isn't enough to judge a player, strikers need a run,you cant chuck someone up there and say today you are the striker, dont worry about being rusty,no pressure, you just need to score a hatrick to maintain your place, you may as well stick BFG there and then moan afterwards how shit a striker he is.
Agree about tactics to get the best out of players but personally I don't think it's worth sacrificing other areas or other players strengths just to try and get the best out of strikers that are going to be bang average at best and inconsistent.
Bottom line is you are only ever going to get varying degrees of mediocrity with the likes of Walcott and Giroud whatever you do. For around 13 mil a season in wages. Fucking joke.

Just catching up on MOTD and the whole game seems to have been played out to the sound of Geordie booing. Couldn't hear any "Same old Arsenal" but if there was we must have an early contender for the Little Club Charter

It is when he shins one over from 3 yds out!
He missed two absolute sitters today - the guy is not and never will be a clinical striker, and will never be suited to play the long striker role
Swifty wrote:I will say this - the comments suggesting Newcastle were overly hard must never have played. A couple of softish tackles hardly made it a bloodbath. Maybe our team reflects how delicate our supporters are. The sooner we get some steel in our side the closer we will be to winning something.
Yup! remember the Good Ole Days when PV4 and dat Manure cuntt called Keane would do battle. Claret everywhere....

Coquelin had a very good half and although without success, it's great to see Ramsey driving into the box.
Wally is not and never will be a lone striker in our system - I have argued that for a long time with fools who have argued that the clown is a striker, and that is based on nothing only the fact that he has speed His finishing is erratic, he only has one string to his bow (running onto through balls behind the defence) and is therefore easily nullified, and he has zero physical presence or ability to link up the game
As disappointed as I am that the victims didn't hand over 20-25m for him to replace sterling, the fact that we are now paying the useless fcuk £140k per week has driven me to a whole new level of anger and frustration
His brain is the problem - it don't function as fast as his legs. Giroud is the other way round - brain too fast for his legs. Don't worry Danny Boy will be back soon & all will be rosy. Take the 3 points & watch the toffees do the scum tonight.
As an aside, I wish we had decent cover on the bench for Coquelin as right now he's the ONLY one who can do a job in that role...
Luckly, he doesn't play all that much for France..
Flamini & Arteta should have gone by now as they're clearly past it...
Having just returned from the grim NorthEast I was wondering what people that were at the game thought of the players at the end of the game?
Plenty of gooners travelling on either expensive trains or arse numbing coach journeys, with complimentary cram in all limbs.
10 players at the end of the game gave half hearted claps from the half way line.
Only AOC actually came anywhere near us to thank us.
Am I expecting too much from them or am I right in thinking they are out of order.
Incidentally, last weekend I attended Preston v ipswich with an ipswich mate of mine and the ipswich players spent ages at the away end at the end of the game?
