As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

That said having a board and most importantly manager who have all bought into this profits before trophies mantra has made it an immeasurably smoother ride. Whilst he doesn't care about popularity what he will care about is negative press to the extent that it starts to damage the value of his investment - a manager who was prepared to stand up to this regime rather than be complicit and/or other board members challenging him could spark something. But unfortunately the only person who has really done so is that turncoat rat Nina Bracewell-Smith who lost her credibility years ago.
Can I just take this chance to reserve a special mention for a perennially under-rated villain of the piece. Peter Hill-Wood you are a prize prick who sold his birthright and lurches from one embarrassment to the next. Condescending wanker who would have his ancestors turning in their graves, I haven't subjected myself to the most recent accounts but the last ones I looked at from 2013 showed that he paid himself a 75k salary which really sums up his greed. I certainly won't be shedding a tear when somebody wades through the clouds of stale cigar smoke to find that the piss-soaked port-addled body of yours has given up hope like any sane Arsenal fan.
He has been lambasted on numerous threads on here for years, mate.

Spend enough to get Champions League qualification, and hence make a profit.
But do not spend significantly more to make a title challenge, which may not be successful, because that might risk the profit.
Business model or not it couldnt be achieved without a manager who was willing to go along with it
The key moment was when Wenger didnt walk when David Dein was kicked off the board that was the beginning of the end

For me if a guy has no loyalty to friends and family, then he is not a guy that has any character or can be depended on - le cock should have supported his long term friend and the guy who brought him to the club, but he put his own plans ahead of any loyalty to a friend and that was a nail in his coffin for me People will claim that DD told him not to resign, but I'm sorry I dont need someone else telling me what is right and what needs to be done

Not having a pop here, augie - but would you jack your job because your mate got sacked?
I know, it's a bit different for Wenger as he is financially comfortable enough to be able to afford a conscience and the concept of loyalty compared to us tax paying mortgage paying mortals. But then what if Wenger truly loves his job, and maybe views it as a vocation?? Should we expect him to "do the right thing"?
I just had a look at an article about the AGM last year.
2 things were made clear
1) Wenger will decide when he leaves - so really the 3 year contract ending in 2017 is irrelevant. If he wants to continue then he will allow himself to do so
2) Josh Kroenke will take a greater role in the club now that he is on the board. this might become more evident in the coming year because Stan is probably going to be busier with the NFL rams team in the immediate future. (one thing is certain he will not be concerned about the performance of Wenger one little bit)

I dont for one second believe that all the rumours about le cock being wanted by ALL europes big clubs a few years ago was true BUT, I think that we all know that he could have walked away from us and into a lot of top jobs had he chose to do so at that time. If I was working in another country and knew that I could walk from one top job into another top job, then I wouldnt think twice about doing so IF the circumstances demanded it and on this occasion they most certainly did. The thing is that he could have also walked away without the fans turning on him for doing so - every Gooner knew how close he and DD were, and DD was still a popular figure amongst most fans at that time, so the decision to walk away would most certainly have been met with disappointment but any feelings of anger would have been directed at the board for forcing our two real power brokers from the club.
I find it odd that after all this time cloughie's rep still suffers from the fallout he had with peter taylor, but yet the same thought process isnt applied in other cases and specifically this one. Taylor CHOSE to leave clough and break up the successful prtnership in the process and yet clough gets hammered for it. DD didnt choose to walk away and I for one feel that had wenker walked at that time, the board would have backtracked and re-instated DD, but that is all speculation because wenker turned his back on his buddy.
Ironically enough neither clough nor wenker were anywhere near as good at their jobs without their sidekick

There are people that will tell you a different version of that story, augie. Cloughie tends to get hammered for it as it was his taking a sneaky pay rise behind Taylor's back that seems to be the thing that kicked it off between them - but also reading between the lines of Taylor's comments, it seems to me Taylor was sick and tired of Cloughie's carry on, his attitude and his personality. I'm sure Taylor played his part in their break up too, but I'd imagine Cloughie was a difficult man to work with.
