Gabriel was the one player we had prepared to do that today and he's getting slaughtered for it !!!
Nobody is slaughtering him for the way he played... but the red card had nothing to do with football. The game had been stopped for ages.

It was a silly red card. I can't see how you justify it.

Just because Costa got away with it doesn't mean everyone will.

Hes being criticised for petulantely flicking out a leg like a girl instead of doing Costa right and proper. Better to get hung for a sheep as a lamb.

I'm not justifying it - I'm just not going to slaughter the one player who stood up, grew a pair and played excellently on the basis that he showed a natural human reaction to an absolute c.unt who already should have been sent off. Nothing can change the fact that Costa should have been sent off. Howard Webb said exactly that afterwards and it was obvious to anyone watching the game. Dean has been an Arsenal hater for years, and has got decisions wrong in just about every top game I have ever seen him ref.

I take it most people on here have played football at one level or another, and I'm also taking it that at one point or another has lost their cool in the face of extreme provocation, shit reffing and blatant cheating. All I'm asking for is a bit of fucking empathy and forgiveness. It doesn't matter whether you're playing for free or 100k per week - cheating is cheating, and it provokes a reaction that I can totally relate to. His sending off was nowhere near as criminal as Blowdry Boy throwing a hissy on the back of one little decision and then clumsily connecting with someone waist high only 5 minutes later

i know, SteveO. I was fuming at home so I can understand him losing his cool but the result is more important so you have to hope your players can channel that anger in a way that doesn't leave us with 10 men so early.

Sadly it cost us the game (or at least changed it) because the dickhead ref saw it and not Costa! :cussing:

Anyway, I don't think we're that far apart in what we're saying so on a positive note... I'm liking Gabriel 8) no nonsense defender with speed and reads the game well.

I just hope he doesn't spend months on the bench now that Per is back as I'd like to see more of him.

This.

During the match I was pissed off royally at a few gooners who where suggesting that our team had no discipline and the captain should have stepped in. I could imagine Adams/Keown or PV4 stepping in allright and giving Costa a good hiding.

You can't even begin to think how much pressure there is in top level sport, to be away from home with 40,000 plus chavs on your back and a ref that isn't being impartial. The bottom line is Costa shouldn't even have been on the pitch to wind Gabriel up. As it turn's out Costa has had history with Brazillian players in the past.

Anyone remember Carragher getting sent off years ago for throwing a coin back into the East Stand Highbury. Knowing Carragher as we do now, you would never think he would do such a thing.

I now need to lie down having agreed with stevie oooo,

Has anyone seen the intentional back heel by Gabriel? As dean didn't see it and it seemed Costa who was walking behind Gabriel stopped and Gabriel trod on his foot. The camera angles didn't show any intentional kick. Still can't believe Costa didn't get sent off for assaulting Kos, yet Gabriel sees red for a kicj that only the linesman saw.

Nobody saw it because there wasn't a fucking kick at all ! The very worst it was, was him stepping backwards on to his foot - a heinous crime worth a straight red, unlike persistent cheating, slapping someone in the face and knocking them down to the ground

Also, carzola's tackle was not a straight red and had the shot that deflected off chambers arm not gone in, dean would've sent him off and given a penalty because that's how he was refereeing the game.

What is even more fucking annoying is now watching every Sky commentator's wet dream, Citeh, trailing 1-2 at home to the Shammers and the fact that there are no real outstanding teams in the average PL, as demonstrated by results in Europe AGAIN this week.

A proper partner for Coquelin (Wanyama, Kondogbia etc), and a Jackson Martinez type up top, a bit of level handed refereeing here and there and we might, just might, have been competitive this season

slapping someone in the face is a red card if the ref see's it. I guess he didn't quite see it like we did on TV.

Purposely kicking out/backheeling/stamping/stepping etc. is also a red card. We're seen it countless times even when the "victim" feels no pain whatsoever like when Beckham tapped Simone and Vieria kicked out (but missed!) Van horeseface.

Football has some fucked up rules. Taking a shirt off in celebration is a yellow card. A shawcross leg breaker is 3 games; Same as an insult on twitter or a tap to the face.

It doesn't help when retards like Mike Dean can't see the full picture of what's going on but the rules make it far too easy for him to fuck games up.

Maybe we should get Giroud to resort to playing like Costa and see how long that lasts before he gets a red card.

What I loved about our team in 1998 was that they could mix it with the best and PV4, TA6 and Keown could be as nasty, as any nasty c.unt could be. However, none of them behaved like Costa and cheated their way through 90 minutes. I've even got more respect for Dogbreath than I have for him
