As much as I like him I would sell him. He needs a Suarez type player ahead of him. If you have someone who can run away from a defence and finish Ozil could play them in all day long but we haven't even got a striker worthy of the name. Giroud is not good enough for the level he is trying to play at. Walcott is not a striker, he can't beat a keeper in a one on one. Who knows when Welbeck will be fit enough to play. Sanchez and Ozil in the same team hasn't really been a great success in any big matches.

The question begs, why is Özil so good for Germany, and so average at Arsenal?

Easy, that tippy-tap, slow buildup, kindly let let the defense set up before we even think to shoot singular tactic Wenger uses is minimizing his effectiveness.

I wouldn't sell him, I'd use him more effectively and bring in players that can play well behind him - that Schneiderlin fellow would have been nice...

Proves what a fucking waste of money he was in the first place.....quality players hold their value.

Wouldnt honestly say he played any different for them when they won the WC last year, wasnt he out on the wing for them as well... Quite a contrast to the WC before when he was one of the stand out players.

Ozil's agent has played a blinder.

Monday: Ozil may join Fenerbache . It's possible.

Thursday: Ozilnsupposedly offered shiny new contract.

As easy as that. Yet another one not having to earn their mammoth wages

Getting a pay rise...not bad in these austere times.

I Know I said we over paid for him and I dont think he was what we needed either but I do think he is a class player who under a different style of play and better players around him would do well . ! ! !

Herd.....totally agree. Ozil is a very good player with a football brain sadly on a level beyond the majority of his teammates. Can you imagine trying to feed and anticipate the movement of our French wardrobe up front or the headless walnut. All we can hope is that alexis regains his sparkle as he is the only player we have with the required ability to complement ozils skills

Yet to turn up in a big game is the often quoted mantra- yesterday showed what a class player he is, just cannot see how we would have done anything yesterday without Ozil- Sanchez is great but the vision of Ozil gets Sanchez going.

Great to see him score though he did miss another easier chance  That perhaps is why he doesnt do it for a lot of us- if he actually scored more he would be more of a hero methinks.

Sanchez was the populist and very obvious choice for MOTM (and I don't begrudge him it - he was brilliant) but for me Ozil was the quality, the vision and the calm intelligence on the pitch and was my MOTM.

I don't buy the "he's lazy" argument because that's not his game. He's a creator, not a runner. For me, the only thing I'd level at Ozil is inconsistency - but that may be indicative of frustration at playing with a few players well below his level.

I can't help but feel if we'd signed a top top striker then Ozil would be turning up like yesterday for every game and going back to being the biggest provider of assists in Europe.

totally agree,I hate that 'lazy' label, when you buy Ozil you know you arent going to get a headless chicken ala Sanchez, and why should Ozil be made to be a headless chicken.Ozil has the most assits across Europe over the past 4 seasons, those sort of stats don't lie.Ozil is never gonna break his neck running around, his game is more refined and needs people on his wavelength,im sure in a team built around him he world look a worldy every game,if only Le Cock could see that too

Saw a statistic on sky that ozil still has assisted Ronaldo for goals more than any other player at Madrid. Considering he hasn't played in the same team for 3 seasons its staggering. A better striker, means a better more effective ozil.

His quality is there for all to see. However, Madrid spend most weeks swatting sides at home by 4 or 5 and there is no doubt he has the class to provide bucket loads of assists in that environment. I'd like to know what his stats were like in the more difficult away games that Madrid played like Atletico, Barca, Sevilla etc....because its in those games (like at the Bridge) where you can go for 20-30 minute spells without noticing he's on the field. Against Olympiakos he was woeful, and yesterday sublime

I think its always going to be like that - we've got to accept he's never going to be the lung busting type like Alexis. When he's on song he's going to be brilliant, when he's not he's going to be a passenger

So that's 1 good game in a big match in 3 years - yeah, proves conclusively that the critics are wrong.
