As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Maybe the Away fans at the match should have to be recompensed by the individual responsible for spoiling their afternoon.
Garth Crooks was right in what he said, it does seem more and more these days that the Refs want to be the stars of the game rather than just refereeing the match.
True, but I don't think refs go out to deliberately ruin games. They should be punished when they do, but it's more incompetence than anything more sinister.
He was conned by Costa. And that's what annoys me: why is there no punishment for players who try and con the referee into sending fellow professionals off? - it makes the ref look silly, puts the opposition down to 10 men, brings the game into disrepute and undermines sportsmanship.
Yet despite all that; there's no punishment for it? why? I find that really weird.
It encourages cheating because there's little or not consequence to being caught yet everything to gain.
G88ner i agree totally that in most cases it is pure incompetence or inability to keep up with play that causes bad decisions but i do feel that when Ref's are obviously in the wrong and are punished it should be much more public so people are aware of it.
The FA are fast enough to punish managers and players who step out of line where comments or treatment of referees are concerned and they do it very publicly i feel it is about time it was reciprocated with referees. Too often are bad refereeing decisions very costly for clubs, players and to a certain degree the paying fans too.
Imagine a relegation decider where decisions were taken such as we had at the weekend it could be extremely costly to one club and i actually wonder what if anything would be done in that case when reviewed, not sure if a match could be replayed or what?

Mike Riley just called; he said that he and Mike Dean would like to buy you a pint.
Surely given that Gabriel's red card has been overturned and Costa being found guilty of violent conduct, meaning he should have been sent off, Gabriel's behaviour after he got red card is irrelevant. The situation was caused by the referee being incompetent.

It would appear that somewhere in the darkest recesses of their Saville Row trousers, they've located a pair of bollocks.
Gabriel's appeal has been upheld (i.e. no 3 match ban for him) and Costa has been given a 3 match ban.
Stay tuned for news of hell freezing over.
It's not !st April is it?
Any word on a punishment for the dickhead responsible for the whole mess, the sorry excuse for a referee, naw didn't think so, hell will freeze over before that happens
All commentators, pundits yesterday were saying it was wrong that he had his ban lifted.Just because he swung his leg and didn't make contact, doesn't mean that intent wasn't there and what will happen now? A free for all in the PL, swiping but missing, sticking out legs, but not making contact blah, blah, blah

Does that mean Sanogo actually had the most shots last year now if airshots count ?

Although I for one was proud to see an Arsenal player sticking up for his team-mate / facing up to the opposition as it's been far too long since we had real fight in our side.

Was brilliant to see! Pity the rest were pansies
Imagine if the 2004 team were out there, they'd still be finding bit of costa around the pitch

For protesting that he didnt kick? proven he didnt kick viz the red cards been accepted as wrong.
For Protesting about the red card? proven that he should have, card was wrong
For calling Mike Dean out? Guy should get a VC for that
Worse thing is BFG will get a game and then carry on with our equal best CB back on the bench learning more English
The FA are totally out of touch.
I have a hunch the FA had backed themselves into a corner here. Once they had given Gabriel the extra charge.
Under their own laws if a player shows reluctance to leave after a dismissal to the point of having to be frogmarched off they must act.
If both charges had stuck he would have had a 4 match ban, ludicrously harsh.
So the way around it? drop the first charge.
We will never know, but if Gabriel had walked straight off he would probably not have the red rescinded.
Sounds crazy I know, but the FA are a crazy bunch.
