As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

1 wenger and his coaching staff ruin world class players such as arshavin, ozil etc by playing them out of position
2 wengers transfer policy / scouting has been terrible ever since football became more global.
3 wenger is myopic and and lacks self awareness. In the past week he has embarrassed himself and the club over the OSpina situation
The bottom line is we should be challenging last 4/8 in the champions league each year and challenging for the title with the level of financial capabilities the club has. I watched SOuthamptom yesterday and their desire, speed of play and technical level was superb - contrast that to our performance against Chelsea. This is down to massive mis management over the last decade in all areas of the club ex commercial.
Welcome to the forum, look forward to hearing your rational, incisive comments re our once great clubs malaise through Wenker's ineptitude and incompetence ( ably assisted by a spineless board, happy to reward failure)

Ps the basement is worth an occasional visit
Just don't mention 'The Clique' whatever you do....or you could end up bummed by the Oirish Mods, covered in lime and buried in a shallow grave.

Welcome, you are saying what many on here have been saying for far too long now. I also watched Southampton yesterday and realised how they knew Chelsea's frailties and exposed them. As you say speed , thought and desire made Chelsea look ordinary. Yet Arsene and Arsenal went into yet another game at The Bridge beaten before kick off. Remember how it hurt us that we were the only "top" team not to beat Moyses' United, will we be also remembered as the only team that failed to trouble a crumbling Chelsea.

Make no mistake, if Jose hasbt put it out there, the press woulda carried on massaging Wenker's balls, comparing him to a Fergie-esque Elder Statesman. Nope.
That journo question today is THE best question I've ever heard any journo ask him (closely followed by Jacqui Oatley. Another classless moment from Le Cretin).
"Who are you accountable to, and if you're accountable to nobody is that a healthy situation?"
His tetchy response is absolute proof if any were needed that he knows the Dictator is finally having his rule openly challenged!
Don't get me wrong after wins v Sunderland, Bournemouth and Villa you'll get Paddy Barclay, John Cross and the spunk-crust licking Emirates sheep lining up to praise him and Ozil...
But this is superb. At LAST
Hope you watched that cunnt moanhinho after they got smashed by the saints, talk about making excuses, he's blamed everyone but himself.
And he is beggin for his job
And he has also just said that after a bad start a top 4 is a decent end to the season, no different to Wenger then
THE LONGEST rant from a manager I've ever seen, this is piss funny
Good to see the height of your ambition is showing off about another team's result, when we haven't even played.
I'll just remind of you of the PL teams who've taken points off Jose this season:
Then there's the small matter that every team has banged in goals against Chelski this season. Virtually every PL team has scored at least twice against them, even Pulis.
Only one team and manager has lost miserably, without managing a single goal against them.
Your celebrations tonight after we lost at home to Olympiakos and are certainly going to be dropping points tomorrow, is so classically small-time

Nice first post mate.
I agree with all your points but especially point 1. I dont think enough is made of how Wenger's management actually ruins players. He lives off his reputation for what he did with Geoege Weah and Henry but he's probably ruined more than he has helped. And its why I think making new signings is almost futile for us now because they are just made to fit into the system that Wenger has created, rather than be allowed to make any real impact.
Sanchez may be an exception to this because he has an in built desire to impose himself on games but I'm sure Wenger's thinking that can slowly being coached out of him .

That said, whilst we are never going to nab key players from those top sides I do think that there are still opportunities for us to go in and ask the question about good players who they are not necessarily wanting to sell but whose heads could be turned by the opportunity to be a guaranteed starter in a comfortable side in the PL and CL.
Having read augie's reply I can see we're all pretty much saying the same thing.
There was an interesting(ish) comment that Wenger made about Jorge Mendes (apparently a "super-agent")
Ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League game against Manchester United on Sunday, Wenger was asked if he had ever completed a transfer with Mendes involved. “Nearly, that was Ronaldo. Since then, never,” he replied. “He goes to different directions, he has special clubs. “I do what is right for the club and in a legal way, but if I think he has a player that is absolutely essential for the club I would do it. [Mendes] has done nothing special to me.
Actually, I'm not sure it is interesting but Wenger appears to be implying that Mendes favours other clubs (probably true if he gets a bigger cut or certain clubs spend money more freely than tight wads Arsenal)
He also says he'll act in a "legal way" which implies others don't but also suggests (which we already know I suppose) that we're not willing to enter the murky world of the transfer market in the same way other big clubs are and that also probably explains why we keep missing out on players and only chase players who are officially for sale
It's more evidence that we're a big club punching below out weight... and also suggests that Gazidis and Law are doing a shoddy job of player recruitment as ultimately it shouldn't be Wenger's job to do the dirty work.

At least its nice to hear how we nearly signed Ronaldo again
If the bloke is still a super-agent (?) and clearly has his favourites which is potentially damaging then why make any comments about him at all? Hardly going to help.

I thought the same surely better to say nothing and get Gazidis and Law on his side. A club of our standing with £200m in the bank should be music to Mendes' ears!

"He has done nothing special for me".Why the hell should he??? The reality is these guys make a fortune off deals and they are going to head straight to where a deal can be made quickly. He owes Wenger NOTHING, so why should he go to a guy he knows is going to haggle endlessly about the price and then not commit to the purchase anyway?? Dein was the negotiator, he knew how to pour oil on troubled waters. Wenger on the other hand hates to spend money, hates to be told anything, refuses to learn and just ends up pissing everyone off. No wonder nobody wants to deal with him.
