Previous Watford v Arsenal matches (Vicarage Rd)

Post by StuartL »

Haven't officially been away to Watford because the one time I did go, it was an all ticket match which I travelled to without a ticket, nobody selling spares so had to turn back after kick off and come home
Also had lost my train ticket and had to pay for another fare

On top of that we lost 2-0 and think that was the game when Gooners set a small fire and some went onto the pitch from memory.

Anybody with happier memories to share ?

Watford away was one of those rare occasions Arsenal would wear white socks .... now they wear them almost all the bloody time of course

This was during our exciting (but very brief) flirtation with the top of the league in the autumn of 1984. Worth watching for a classy 2nd goal by Charlie Nicholas.

FA Cup quarter final win there in 1980, where Arsenal wore yellow socks with the home gear I seem to remember. Win there on Easter Sunday 2000 , listening on 5 live and the commentator was calling for a "massive ban " for Vieira over some incident that didn't merit a mention by anyone else after the game, think Henry scored a classic that day.

Yes mate Charlie Nicholas scoring 2, remember him turning up at the ground driving his Mercedes getting mobbed by the Arsenal fans

I remember us bieng all over the ground everytime we played them, and the new stand was a favourite haunt .
Good relations with the locals ment for large amounts of boozing before and after the matches which might account for the fact although ive been there a number of times I can remember a single game there.

At home however I cant forget the FA Cup game ,2-1 down and we appeal for a penalty which the lino is flagging for we think and everyone stops . . . . except watford who boot the ball out to Barnes who despite being 5 yards offside (actually he was inside his own half ) ran the ball in at the clock end and BANG its 1-3 !

Cue a near riot !
