You couldnt be further from the truth with the last bit of your post mate. Firstly, Van Gaal believes in youth. Secondly, LVG is the guy who brought through the likes of Xavi and Schweinsteiger. He is a manager that likes to build for the long term - from the training ground to matchday. Mourinho couldn't give two shites about the teams he manages or what happens to them when he leaves.

He's a very good manager BUT I agree, like Wenger he's stubborn. We are dog chod to watch but we're getting results. That's all that matters to me - I don't care about pretty football without substance.

He's thinking long term, for the next manager up with signings like Martial, Darmian, etc. We've got (on paper) the best squad in many years. But we've got a cautious manager.

He's tactically pretty good in the 'big games' apart from the thumping v you lot earlier in the season. Basically, for building a completely new team, he's a pretty good bloke to have in charge to hand the baton over when he retires. I don't think we'll get near the title this season but a top 3 finish is progress over last season and the season before.

When we sell Rooney in the summer (LOTS of rumours about the Fat Scouser going to China for a final pay packet) and we get in a world class striker to alternate with Martial, and a CB to play next to Smalling, we'll be challenging for the league again. We have thrown money at the problem but why shouldn't we? We've earned it over the years and Fergie didn't want to dip into the pot if he could help it.

In the long term, we'll be fine. We've just got to get through this boring period until Pep Guardiola is manager ;)

The PL is in relative terms as weak as ever. The bloke inherited a side which was two possibly three players away from being a title winning side (let's not pretend you need five world class players and two quality players in each position to win the title). Didn't need to sell anybody or have anyone snapping after his players.

Given 250mil to spend coupled with a wage bill and ability to attract players akin to United, more or less any side in the division would be confident of being able to challenge for the title.

I disagree.

Fergie let the squad rot. Evans, Cleverley, a constantly injured Rafael, Fletcher, Welbeck etc were never going to win league titles in the long term for United. They were squad players at the very best. But Fergie constantly came out with the 'no value in the market' quote whilst Chelsea and City were throwing cash at world class players like Hazard and Aguero.

We were desperate for an injection of talent - our midfield and defence was a shambles.

Fergie was a genius. He could polish any turd and make any player believe they can win the league.

The way that squad downed tools under Moyes was a disgrace.

To be fair, Ferguson worked miracles with that late-era squad; winning titles with a chunk of average players. He did leave Moyes (and Van Gaal) a massive rebuilding job though. It's a shame that Moyes couldn't break out of that small-time mentality he has. Although we ripped the piss out of him/United at the time, it would have been nice to still have a British manager at one of the big clubs. Now he'll have to try and do another Everton with a bottom-half Prem club when the opportunity comes.

Wenger looked like he could knock Ferguson off his perch for a while, but there's no doubt that Fergie pisses all over Wenger in reputation and introphies. The longer Wenger stays, the worse he looks when compared to Ferguson. We only pray that he doesn't want to equal Ferguson's 27 years at one club.

I'd love to see Rooney go to China.

The Anelkas etc that go there seem to hate it, leave after 6 months without getting paid and show up in Turkey.

It could be a fitting end for the granny-shagger.

Let's not forget that Rooney has a contract at United paying him roughly £300k a week until a few months before his 34th birthday. Doesn't exactly need to go to China for the pay-off.

It baffles me how 'big clubs' like United and Arsenal persist with overrated donkeys like Rooney and Giroud.

I can't wait to see the back of him. He is even transfer listed on my FIFA save!

The last line of that post says it all,Fergie made players BELIEVE they could win it,no matter how average they were,Fergie in charge of Arsenal in the last 10 years would have won the league with the squad we've had.

Good shout.

Newcastle is a great club, but they are cursed with a tightwad shitcunnt of an owner (and he's a y|d). They should be in the top six every season, not fighting relegation.

It sounds like Moyes wants another crack in mainland Europe though, which is mad considering he gave up the Spanish lessons and never moved out of his hotel. He should get back to the UK ASAP, they won't tolerate his brand of football out there.

Unquestionably. We'd be improved tenfold just with the coaching and training alone. No injury crises, no players who don't know what to do on the pitch. Failure wouldn't be acceptable as it seems to be under The Old Fraud.
