THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If we were to win the league purely because other teams were poor as opposed to us being very good i'd certainly be concerned over where that might leave us. The last 10 seasons have proven time and again that AW does things his own way and a PL win would most definitely confirm, in his own mind at least, that his way of doing things is justified and i'm not sure that would be good for the supporters.
This is all very true. Just like when we won the FA Cup in 2014, Wenger announced he was staying on the back of that win.
But that was not the question. The question was who gets the credit for Arsenals victories? And as manager Wenger does. Just like how he should have taken the flak and been sacked many, many times for umpteen different capitulations, crazy decisions etc.

Problem I have is Wenger gets the credit but doesnt seem to be accountable for all of his failures spanning a decade. Theres always an excuse, a get out of jail card.
That point is probably the most pertinent point in this whole thread and it is the one thing that seriously bugs me about certain posters on here and fans elsewhere, they'll crow when AW's management works but steadfastly refuse to criticise when things go disastrously wrong :banghead:

Much as i am a huge critic of AW and would be more than happy to see him replaced i can at least admit if he gets something right, the problem is for a Top 10 richest club we are nowhere near where we should be in terms silverware compared not only to the other top 9 but many many of the poorer clubs around but for some reason AW is NEVER held to account by anyone.

And just as soon as a bit of Wenger scrutiny or criticism builds in the press or among fans then the mask slips, the eye twiches and he starts with the insults. But inevitably at these difficult times for him he somehow seems able to put a few wins together, scrape top four, or qualify for the CL last 16 to "prove us all wrong" once again.

Top of the league - can't wait to hear John Cross on Talksport tomorrow. No doubt he'll call out the Stoke Three and the rest of the "not proper fans" who dared to question our Lord and Master !

what seems to be forgotten by the media is that Van Gaal is doing no worse or better at Man Utd (4th) than Wenger has been doing/getting away with for the past DECADE ! Yet Van Gaal is getting absolutely slaughtered in the press whilst Wenger after masterminding wins over Villa, Sunderland and Olympiakos is once again considered a genius

this is pretty much it. the media don't stop flip-flopping with wenger, they know he ain't going anywhere whereas at man utd and chelsea they are expected to compete amongst the elite in europe, therefore the managers are not safe in their respective postions.

at Arsenal with wenger in charge, we are expected to try and compete. big difference there :|

Did anyone watch MOTD2 last night? Found it strange how they did a semi-tribute to Wenger at the end of the show. Comparing how he had been at the club since 96, yet Villa had gone through 10 managers in that time. So a great club refuses to sack their underachieving manager, while a shit club continuously sacks their shit managers.

Good debate on the last few pages.

There's no doubt in my mind that TOF could never win the Be All and End All unless he changes his bullshit 'philosophy', which he won't. He has no respect for the art of defence, which is vital to winning things. The man is a serial failure in Europe, even when he was good (pre-2006/08). He reached just three European finals in 'thirty years of football' - Three defeats.

I suppose we should be grateful that we won the PL three times before he went mad with power - It's very unlikely that we'll ever win it again under him, as the title bottlings in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2014 proved. He's determined to try to win with mentally and physically weak squads, much like trying to fight Mike Tyson with both hands tied behind your back - You might survive for a while and dodge a few punches if you're lucky, but it's only a matter of time before you're on your arse.

The Old Fraud has killed the hope for most of us. We expect more of the same shite we've experienced since 2008.

534 days to go :barscarf:
