Arsenal Fanzines / Other clubs fanzines

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsenal Fanzines / Other clubs fanzines

Post by StuartL »

Have always enjoyed the fanzine revolution giving the fans a voice other than the official club propaganda.

I have a collection of Gooners going right back to issue 1 (with a letter from Mike Francis telling me it was the last one)

I also collected the Echo Echo and 1 nil down 2 one up for a fair while and picked up the odd fanzine of the away club on my travels.

Had a couple of Red Issues (Mancs) The Blade (Sheff Utd) Citizen (Norwich) Chelsea Independent and the Pie (Notts County), wondered if anyone else was a big fanzine enthusiast ?

BTW re-reading the Blade from 1990, they were saying about their coach being bricked coming away from the Lane, some things don't change about that scummy club.

Me!

Bought the same. Favourite Arsenal was 1-0 down with honourable mention to the gooner :D .

Also bought a few Red Issues and Notts County but can't remember many of the others.

I'm sure you can tell me better than I remember Mr L, but Michael Thomas was getting some stick in the 89 season and some were looking for him to be dropped.

George knows best.

I'm sad to say that I haven't ever collected a fanzine :(

I did buy Gunners Magazine and the first few years of Arsenal Magazine, but gave up after it got more and more expensive, with less and less content (sounds familiar, lol). Nowadays the club itself is so filled with propaganda, it's not worth reading anything it puts out.

I do recall Thomas not being everyone's cup of tea, same could have been said of Quinn, Hayes, Groves etc ( he also reverted to little flicks a la Ramsey the following season I seem to recall)

He was such a strong lad, would bounce our midfield off him if he played today, famous story about him doing press ups with George Graham lying on his back.

Sold to Liverpool and scored a very good cup final goal but never really hit the heights he could have done.
