That's absolutely right. Giroud has been our main striker for 4 seasons which is bad enough as he is just not good enough, but Wenger has actively gone out of his way to not sign anybody to challenge him which breeds such a terrible culture and level of arrogance. It's basically buying players loyalty. Had we signed Suarez Wenger would have played him on the wing.
Like you said Almunia and then Szczesny for a time were the same. Wenger often expects good signings to fall into his lap - Hugo Lloris practically did. Wealth of international and continental experience, proven quality, mid-20s and a tiny fee to pay for the most difficult position to recruit.

Like the idiot I am, I got all excited thinking we'd be targetting some top players, but the quote from Lord Wenger was " I won't be buying a striker this Summer". Thanks for that you c***!!!!!!!

Is it too much to hope that he wont be buying a striker because he will no longer be manager ? ?
To be fair if he signed a quality striker it might kill Giroud who at the tender age of 29 has so much more improvement in him after four bang average seasons here.

The divisions below the Premiership all have teams with strikers who score goals. I find it strange that you rarely hear of or see anyone bought from these leagues.
Northampton's top scorer has 16 goals. He must have something to do that no matter what league he plays in.
I don't know if he'd be the answer to our problems but he wouldn't cost a fortune. There must be others who given the chance could do a grand job.
We have a scouting team apparently who are supposed to look into these things. I wonder what they really do.

This is excellent news because the scouts we employ at present don't appear to know anything about talent.
He'll be given the same brief as his predecessor, find a good young player that we can sell to Barcelona in 5 years time for £30m....the players we want are established world class players and they don't need scouting. Just pick up a copy of world soccer look at the top of the team of the month/golden shoe leaders, pick one in the top ten and go and get them.
