What sort of impact will this have on European football? OK it's ordinary players that are being lured but isn't the football foundation built on the ordinary players?

It's no surprise that European clubs are looking at ways to reform the chumps league. I'd have a guess that the issue of allowing teams from outside Europe into the competition might well come up. It won't be long until teams from America and China are playing in a world-wide version of the tournament. If there is money flowing into football in China and America, the owners and players will want more than just domestic leagues and the poor quality continental competitions that they can take part in. There'll be short, intense group stages involving European, Asian and American teams held in the Middle East, North America, India and China before the knock-outs revert to the home and away format. They'll be initial opposition but money and power will win out as usual.

I was listening to a radio interview with somebody the other day, and the guy was asked if the Chinese were really into football, to which he replied, 'No!' All that money and the Chinese prefer baseball or something. Are they hankering after a World Cup or something? Fortunately, I think distance would put a huge hole in such a plan It wouldn't be logical to travel the distance to China to play on a Tuesday then have a weekend trip away to Stoke thereafter.

Comments this morning were saying the new Chinese President is driving it and he is supposedly a huge football fan

He basically wants China to win the world cup whilst he is in power, interestingly enough though to prevent the league being swamped by foreigners and Chinese football development being held back the teams are limited to 4 non-Chinese born players.

They were saying potentially with that $850B they could offer the best players in the world at least double their wages with no problem as the Chinese home grown players wont/aren't be paid particularly well.

I wonder if we could get them to offer a certain Manager treble his wages and some comfort girls?

Haven't players gone over there in the past only to not be paid? It's been a bent league in the past too.

Anyway, I couldn't care less if the mercenaries who play in England follow the money to China. I think it's good that the Chinese have a quota system as well, not that we'd have the sense to have a quota in this country.

Intercontinental games are just too inconvenient to play. That's why there's only the Club World Cup, which barely registers with British/Irish audiences, and almost always comes down to a European-South American contest. I know we'll never play in it whilst TOF is at the club, given that we'd have to win the Be All and End All to qualify for it.
