Excellent! Another minion that TOF will ignore :barscarf:

Perhaps he'll be sent to watch a player fifty times, then someone else can sign him :banghead:

Exactly. Remember when Shad Forsythe was signed to fix the chronic injury problems? Everyone can see how well that turned out.

Might replace the man who scouted Sanogo :barscarf:

Cheaper option could have been a subsided appointment to specsavers!

Midz wrote:The divisions below the Premiership all have teams with strikers who score goals. I find it strange that you rarely hear of or see anyone bought from these leagues.

Northampton's top scorer has 16 goals. He must have something to do that no matter what league he plays in.
I don't know if he'd be the answer to our problems but he wouldn't cost a fortune. There must be others who given the chance could do a grand job.
We have a scouting team apparently who are supposed to look into these things. I wonder what they really do.
The gap in class is simply huge between those leagues and the PL. Even strikers that score a bucket load of goals in teams that win The Championship mostly struggle when they get into the PL. It's just THAT much quicker in the PL with far fewer chances.

In a related issue, I always wonder why people get so bent out of shape about the number of failed signings Wenger (or any manager) makes. Managers simply don't know if a player can cut it in the PL until they play in the PL. Someone can look top class in a lower division or in Italy or Spain and then look bang average (Angel Di Maria) or even shit (Wilfried Zaha) when they get into the PL or even into a so called Big club in the PL. It's a calculated risk and managers have to take it. What I do agree with though is people getting pissed off that these unproven players start on stupid money and often get extended contracts long past the point where they have shown they can't cut it and Wenger is far worse than most other managers for doing that.

I get totally pissed at the type of signings he intentionally targets - cech was a "fall in your lap and couldnt ignore signing" but the vast majority of his signings are of the unproven/long term variety. At a time when we are crying out for an experienced leader and winner to get this team back as league winners, he goes and signs a cheap egyptian guy playing in a piss poor league - even if the potential is there how long will it take to shine through ?? Yes every manager will have their "flop signings", but surely if you persistantly shop in the unproven/cheap basket, then your chances of succeeding will rapidly diminish ?
Wenker specifically buys cheap - there are at least 3 reasons for this but each and every one of them come back and land at his door and all for selfish personal reasons

I agree totally with that. Wenger is at the extreme end of the scale. I know the AKB's will answer with "But he does sign proven talent, he bought Sanchez and Ozil and Cech". The thing is though, he bought them in the last couple of years, he bought no real proven top class talent between 2005 and 2013 (with the possible exception of Mert who was even then let's face it coming towards the latter part of his career).

To justify the risk taken on the ones that fail, you have to have at least a handful that succeeded. I struggle to think of one signing that he made between 2005 and 2013 that was unproven but developed into a top class talent. Some might point at Nasri, Ramsey, Vermaelen, Sagna Kos.... But I'd say all had flashes of greatness but none have been consistently top class.

I particularly liked his assist for the winner in the recent chav$ game! :barscarf: The way he tracked across the box to throw the centre halves off, and then pushed one of them out of the way and shielded the view of the rest of the defenders so they couldn't see the cross coming in. Marvelous work. Oh, hang on. That was in OUR box??!!! WTF. :(

:suicide:

If I wanted a guy that has a lorry load of splinters up his arse, that is weighed down by his wallet, but does more pointing and waving than the poor fu.ckers guiding the planes to land in airports, then I will be sure to call your mercenary friend

Wouldn't mind us testing the waters on a possible Bony transfer City don't seem to be playing him anyway.

I hate the way the Manchester Arabs spend a fortune on players, who they then clearly don't fancy and therefore don't play.

To stop others signing them?

Chelsea did the same thing. The players value money over actually playing, so serves them right. Scott Parker, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge - any more? They all gave up a club that they were playing for regularly for the money, it's not as if they get paid a pittance before they leave the other club.
