Jack Wilshere

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

He smokes, swears, and in general behaves poorly of the pitch.

But he loves Arsenal, hates losing, and is a quality player when fit.

I would say we need Jack Wilshere's mentality more than ever.

Sticking his finger up at City fans, shoving Pennant because we were 2-0 down to Stoke, getting sent off at Old Trafford because he was pi..ed we were losing.

We criticize the mentality of the players, accusing them of being soft, and not to bothered in draws and defeat, yet at the same time want to get rid of Wilshere who hates losing and lets it show.

I wish many other of our players had Wilshere's mentality.

Not sure anybody is questioning his mentality and his commitment. We would just like to see him PLAY once in a while. He's just turned into another sick note. I think he's had the most time out of the prem in recent years. He's not playing, drawing a huge salary and getting a pay rise from the treatment bench, what message is that sending out?

Wilshere isn't a bad player at all but of course his injury record is terrible. One of the few players we've got in midfield who would have tried to stick one on the greasy Barcawhore last weekend if he'd been out there
If he could have got near him in his wheelchair.

I would rip Wilshere's present contract up and tell him he is on a pay per play contract take it or leave it.I'd do the same with Wellbad as well.We are not a fucking charity.Wilshere is the white Diaby spends all season trying to get fucking fit.

He's been a first team player since Sept 2008. This will be his 8th ( ) season as such. He's now 24 years old. He should be at his peak as an attacking midfielder (or Box-to-box player as Wenger once called him). Yet people still talk of his "potential". :|

It's a shame but I don't think he will make it to the top level. :(

If we had a better, more ambitious manager, Wilshere have been sold by now. The truth is he just isn't that good.

This.

If he were a mercurial, game-changing genius I could cut him some slack if he only managed three games a season.

But he's not.

Half our squad must have chronic fatigue syndrome.

People cite his petulance as a positive trait to have when it only leads to bookings and injuries !
I really want to see him do well but I fear he will out diaby diaby !

I gave up on Wilshere the last time he broke down again after the latest comeback. He should start developing a post-football career on the side now and retire from the game by his mid-20s, so he at least has functioning ankles in later life.

Should really be completely modifying the midfield over the summer, with Rosicky, Arteta, Flamini having run down their contracts and Wilshere needing to move on (in my view). I'd rather invest time in Zelalem and Crowley from this point.
