Huffing and puffing and swiping and slashing and bungling and fumbling our way around the opposition's penalty box. I want to drill out my eyes with a black and fucking decker.

We simply didn't approach the game with enough energy and focus. The keeper made some very good saves (mainly from long shots) but you expect us to create more clear cut chances than we did today. Poor performance from players who SHOULD be fighting for a place in the team.Robin_L wrote: Nah in all seriousness, just another one of those home games where the keeper plays out of his skin, otherwise we're winning that game to nil comfortably. Unfortunate.
Oh well, lets hope we beat them in the replay.![]()
...... So do you mean we "Should" or we 'Should' ????

I thought our starting line up was a bit top heavy, and where was the creativity expected to come from?
Okay, it is alleged we had 11 shots on target, most of which the keeper could not avoid (down his throat), the deflected one was a very good reaction save, and a few the keeper could have chucked his hat on.
The best chance was OAC, missed from about the penalty spot.
My concern was Kos, he looked exhausted by the end, and he was fortunate not to pick up a 2nd card after a clumsy tackle late in the game.
Sitting in row 9, block 32 it was easy to hear all the instructions and bitching from Steve Bruce, but what was notable is how when he shouts instructions, all his players on the pitch look at him, and react to them.
In contrast, on the rare occasions Wenger made any noises, not one player was even looking at him.

Wally, Gibbs, Ox and Chambers are all England Internationals....augie wrote:Alan McNally absolutely slated wally - it was the 65th minute and jeff stelling said that we will go over to alan for an update on the match from the emirates, and his opening lines was that "theo Walcott needs to be got out of here cos he is just not good enough"I think that he also made reference to the fact that wally is with us for 10 years too

Of course stelling's first words in response was that "he doesn't half talk rubbish sometimes"He defended wally by pointing out that he is an ingerland international and that he "saved" us last week so how can be not good enough
Can you imagine stelling defending a player's ability by saying that he is a Greece international ? No nor can I, but playing for England automatically means that a player is good enough - why do the names Geoff Thomas and david batty spring to mind ??

The keeper made more saves against our shots than any other opposition keeper this season.
Yeah it was a bit too pedestrian but sometimes the game is slowed down when the opposition won't come out of their half. I really think this can be chalked down to bad luck. Leicester, now that was fucking lucky, and undeserved. We deserved the win today, Hull were shit.

The fact that Gibbs and Chambers can still be referred to as internationals says more about the lack of good English full backs than the ability of either.StuartL wrote:Wally, Gibbs, Ox and Chambers are all England Internationals....augie wrote:Alan McNally absolutely slated wally - it was the 65th minute and jeff stelling said that we will go over to alan for an update on the match from the emirates, and his opening lines was that "theo Walcott needs to be got out of here cos he is just not good enough"I think that he also made reference to the fact that wally is with us for 10 years too

but you wouldn't know it from their performances.
And to call Mertesacker an international is stretching the point. 18 months retired.
If Barcelona have 70% of the ball on Tuesday, and 11 attempts on target, I very much doubt the goals column will be zero.

Chambers still looks really awkward as a full back to me.
Put a few good passes together, but watching him in the attacking 3rd trying to link with Giroud and Sanchez is a bit comical. The guy needs to be our Gary Cahill or nothing at all.

Just like we were in that lacklustre 5 th round 0-0 at highbury in 97/98 v crystal palace

But the shots were mostly long range individual efforts and, other than the save from Campbell's free kick, I thought the saves were more dramatic than difficult.Robin_L wrote:The keeper made more saves against our shots than any other opposition keeper this season.

When a championship team like Hull make 9 changes you expect to be more creative and not be kept at arms length like we were.
That said, the make up of the team was all wrong. Three strikers (Theo, Welbeck and Campbell) who lack creativity, with Iwobi, Flamini and Elneny "pulling the stings". We lacked craft and subtlety, hence the long range, individual efforts that made their keeper look good.
I can understand resting players but Chamberlain doesn't need a rest, he needs games as his form has been poor and he's been on the bench most of the season! - he would surely have added more drive than Flamini, and we hardly needed to be cautious with 2 holding players. Odd.
Re: Hull (H) | FA Cup | Sat. 20th Feb. | 12:45pm
Agreed with this. Our finishing has been pretty poor. Their keeper made two great saves and of those two great saves (from Campbell and Welbeck), one was a deflection. So in other words, out of those 11 or so shots on target, one was worthy of going in.g88ner wrote: But the shots were mostly long range individual efforts and, other than the save from Campbell's free kick, I thought the saves were more dramatic than difficult.

Trust Wenger will sort out the lack of finishing in the summer...

It's difficult because once you take Ozil and Sanchez out, with Cazorla injured we don't really have anybody who you'd rely on to be a cut above everyone else. We should have enough to beat a Championship B side at home but we've been playing badly enough over the last few months without taking those few out of it.
Couldn't watch the game today but sounds like the usual huff and puff with not enough clear chances, opposition keeper makes some good saves which is then exaggerated as greatest performance in goalkeeping history.
Another game we could do without especially as I understand there is a problem as we can't play it on the free midweek we have as UEFA prohibit domestic games on same night as CL games. I would rather have just played the full side today and played the ressies against Barca to take the hiding the first team will anyway.
