Respect to Mertesacker though. This season he's given us TWO new defensive innovations:

1. The "no-look" tackle
2. The "cushioned first-time yard pass to onrushing striker"

Giroud actually earns £130k a week
Don't think Sanogo woulda been worse than him tonight and I mean that. Damning.

How long before we hear how we will "learn" from this year?

Shame really as for 70 minutes we put in a great shift, were pretty well-organised and rode our luck much less than in the past. And then chucked it away with naive and suicidal defending.
Barca played well within themselves and could still have scored 6(thank god for CECH).It was men against boys as it always is when we play one of Europe's super powers.Where was Ozil?where was Sanchez?

Any other manager would have been sacked after SIX seasons in a row of getting knocked out in the CL last 16.We give him a new contract.Big clubs win the CL not the fucking FA cup which is papering over the cracks

Tonight can be viewed as another example of glorious failure. Yes we were playing the best team in Europe, but we don't possess a footballing brain. We spend 70 minutes defending as much as we can, and yet still bomb forward and leave ourselves open at the back for that 1st goal. Tonight also showed the reality that the likes of Giroud and Ramsey just aren't good enough, and the fact there is no one on the bench to replace them, sums Wenger up perfectly. We have an average squad overall, and if I was Sanchez or Ozil, I would be already planning my exit away from crackpot Wenger.

I thought that if a player played in the qualifiers, then he would still be eligible to play for a different club later in the competition, and to my knowledge basel got knocked out in the qualifiers :?

I haven't seen any of the game so can't comment specifically on tonight but if Elneny - the Egyptian Ray Wilkins - is what we're pinning our fucking hopes on then lord help us. Having said that Ramsey is shocking in that holding role and I'd take £25m for him let alone the £50m people were quoting on here

My point re elneny, is that some of us got absolutely slated for our criticism of his signing - if the guy is only good enough to be a back up to a mercenary average French journeyman, who himself is only a back up to an over-hyped average French midfielder, then why the fu.ck did we buy him ??
For the record I thought that ramsey worked hard in the role tonight 8)

Just checked a bet I had on and Arsenal let me down on a 480/1 bet :banghead:

All they had to do was fu*king score!

(Just for the record it was a both teams to score accumulator)

Have to agree Augie, Ramsey played well defensively the only thing i can fault him for was quite a few times his long forward passes were often wayward during the match when his usual tippy tappy hold up play might have actually been useful for once rather than giving the ball straight back to them in most instances.

Why exactly? I'm going on a massive 3-day piss up with my mates in a great city where it will be considerably warmer than England with better nightclubs. Still get to see the Arsenal during all of that, and with absolutely zero expectations.

thought bellerin and monreal and cech played fairly well.

ozil and sanchez below par

giroud sucks

ox brainless

coquellin chasing shadows

mert is a fucking pussy and runs like bambi on ice

kos skilled but brainless

and last, and CERTAINLY LEAST...aaron fucking ramsey just can't help but give the ball away at any opportunity he gets. oh and couldn't score if the goal was scarlet johansen's pussy.
