I saw that one
It's never him is it? Never mind cos he claims this year it's different and he'll have no excuses as none of our players can be tapped up (mainly because 80% of them are mediocre). Can't wait for the excuses come May

He must have an Arsenal of excuses stashed away (pun intended)....So he is saying it was the 'Tapping Up' that caused the wheels to fall of the Arsene wagon...an extract from this piece of drivel also clearly states "That's not the case at the moment." ... and so if we do not win the Prem title this season he cannot use that same lame excuse....
Arsene Wenger: Tap-ups hurt previous Arsenal title pushes
Arsene Wenger won the Premier League title in 1998, 2002 and 2004, but has not done so since
Some of Arsenal's recent Premier League title challenges have been damaged by their players being approached by other clubs, manager Arsene Wenger says.
Wenger's side have developed an unwanted reputation for failing to win the league from promising positions.
However, he believes Arsenal are better placed now as there is no squad unrest.
"When we went into April in 2010, some of the players were tapped up to go somewhere else and it was difficult to maintain the focus," he said.
"That's not the case at the moment."
Arsenal - who are five points behind leaders Leicester going into Sunday's game at Manchester United - last won the Premier League in 2004, when they went through the 38-game campaign without defeat.
They were runners-up to Chelsea the following season, and have finished either third or fourth every year since.
A number of significant challenges for the title in the last 12 years have failed to bring the Premier League trophy to the club.
William Gallas and Arsene Wenger
Arsenal's then-captain William Gallas initially refused to leave the pitch after a 2-2 draw at Birmingham in 2008
In February 2008, they were five points clear of Manchester United with 12 games left, but were derailed by a 2-2 draw at Birmingham in which striker Eduardo suffered a bad leg break and captain William Gallas remained sitting on the pitch at full-time in a public show of anger.
Two seasons later, Wenger's side were top of the table with seven matches to play, but won only two of those games and finished third.
They were in a strong position to push Manchester United in 2010/11, but began to crumble in February as they let slip a four-goal lead in drawing 4-4 at Newcastle, and ended up dropping from second place to fourth.
And two seasons ago, Arsenal were top in early February, but a 5-1 defeat at Liverpool began a run of just two wins in nine matches, and they again ended in fourth place.
Leon Best
Arsenal lost a 4-0 half-time lead in drawing at Newcastle in February 2011
"What is different is that at that time we were losing momentum," Wenger said. "This time it's the opposite.
"Also we were very young at that time, with the famous incident with Gallas at Birmingham. And the mood of some players was more to get the next contract somewhere else than to win the championship because at the time we had to sell our players.
"Now we do not have that problem. All the players are focused and want to win and have great solidarity. It's down to showing how good we are. The psychological situation is completely different today than it was in 2010.
"In 2010, I would say we lost it because the spirit was not exactly what it should be because of individual tap ups. At the moment, on the spirit front we are all right."
How low can this man go? It is Embarrassing.
Does he not realise that all the excuses he makes to the media we Gooners have to bear the brunt of in our daily lives - when fans of other teams quote them....knowing full well they are a load of tosh.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
ps: From a psychological perspective - regardless whether a player has been 'tapped up' or not surely any player worth their salt would not only want to leave the club on a high note (win as many trophies as possible) but also show the club who have done the tapping they are getting a decent buy.....
It just doesn't add up.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
TBH it's a well known phenomenon. Most manages have complained about players "having their heads turned" by other clubs tapping them up. But it's typical Wenger bollocks to say it cost us the league. One or two players losing focus because of tapping up doesn't stop a decent squad winning the league. Unless the squad isn't that decent to start with. Oh, hang on...OneBardGooner wrote:ps: From a psychological perspective - regardless whether a player has been 'tapped up' or not surely any player worth their salt would not only want to leave the club on a high note (win as many trophies as possible) but also show the club who have done the tapping they are getting a decent buy.....

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Ok. Here's a question for the Wenger haters. What would you choose:
we win the double this season but Arsene stays for 5 more years
or the scum win the PL and Arsene goes in May
or we finish 4th but ahead of tottingham but win nothing and Arsene stays 2 more years.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Lets put it like this, I'm willing to forget all my hatred towards Wenger if we win the double, but i'm fairly confident we wont win either trophy this season, let alone both.DB10GOONER wrote:Ok. Here's a question for the Wenger haters. What would you choose:

Forget reality mate. It's just hypothetical. Remember though if he won the double there's no guarantee for the next 5 seasons. He'd have been proven right in his mind. But in a weak league. Over the next 5 years citeh manure chavs and maybe scum and mousers will spend to improve.BFG4 wrote:Lets put it like this, I'm willing to forget all my hatred towards Wenger if we win the double, but i'm fairly confident we wont win either trophy this season, let alone both.DB10GOONER wrote:Ok. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Excellent article that highlights the title bottlings of 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2014. Although they didn't go into much detail about how bad they were (2011 was shocking, dropping 21 points in 13 games).
Now TOF has basically admitted to bottling it in 2010, when that was actually the closest margin - we could only have won by about 3 points or something - due to the traitor Fabregas being tapped up. Granted, those wanker Barca players were very smart talking about him at every opportunity in press conferences, but that is no excuse for TOF's tactical and transfer failures for the past eight Groundhog Seasons.
What about 2011 and 2014, Arsene? What's your excuse for those?
2016 could still be added to the list, depending on what happens today and the next several games

Regardless of the potential consequences i.e. Wenger staying at the club longer, I would love to see us win the title this season, it' what following the team all year round is about. I know your going to say it's hypothetical again DBDB10GOONER wrote:Forget reality mate. It's just hypothetical. Remember though if he won the double there's no guarantee for the next 5 seasons. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I'm sure plenty of the smaller clubs who we've signed players from have had complaints about our conduct in courting their players - although generally being paid two or three times the value of the player in question keeps them quiet. Speaking of which weren't we sanctioned for misconduct on the chambers transfer?
Reminds me of Berbatov's move to United. Sky sports news were showing pictures of him inside old Trafford whilst Spurs were vehemently insisting that United had no permission to talk to him and they would enforce their rights. Suddenly a 28m transfer becomes a 32m one and sure enough it all goes quiet!

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
If by some miracle we win the league Wenger will definitely not strengthen. If he won't strengthen chasing the title, why would he if he wins it??? In fact, can you imagine, he will be insufferable.

It's a no brainer for me; win the doubleDB10GOONER wrote:Ok. Here's a question for the Wenger haters. What would you choose:

Yes, I know there's potential consequences in that we'll continue to get knocked out of the CL the first time we draw a big club and yes, we'll no doubt return to fighting for 4th place once Guardiola arrives and United & Chelsea get their shit together, but I'd still go for the double under Wenger and take my chances.

It's all pointless. Football's pointless.
Unless we get 3 points today
