THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Yeah I know, it makes me so f'ing Angry - This is also yet another groundhog pattern that has been repeated year after year....

Arsenal will let England left-back Kieran Gibbs, 26, leave this summer with 18-year-old Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell among the main targets to come in. (Telegraph)

I Hope this is true - re: Gibbs he has been woeful

The Gunners have £135m in the bank, according to financial results revealed last week, but will only give manager Arsene Wenger £70m to strengthen his squad this summer. (Daily Mail)

£135 million - So WTF happened to the other £75 million from the £200 million that was available last season?

Arsenal FC was once the by-word for "Class" - Now???? - They have not only become a laughing stock in the eyes of many - But have Lost that sense of 'Class' under the tyrranical reign of despot Mr Bean - who along with Gazidis and Kreonke - seem to think nothing of designing the facts to fit their needs.

It is Sad. and Embarrassing

TBH it can happen. There is fit and then there is match fit. If a player is rushed back from injury without enough conditioning and enough reserve or u21 games to build his match fitness then he will tire out quite quickly. Again, it demonstrates poor man management by Wenger and is indicative of the level of ineptitude in our medical and physio departments. :|

But you get match fit by playing, surely, even if it's on for 60 mins or so., not just drop him completely.

Augie, Iwonder if you are right on that- I suspect its many many more, at least 25-30,000. In the ground its less maybe but theres always some mutterings I hear when Im there, just not anyone to lead it. Havent heard whats cooking from Redaction recently, and WTF are the black scarf movement doing about it?

I very seldom listen to him these days, but heard via Talkshite - Today he was at his bumbling worst, On Sounness "People" are a bit too emotional" blaming the media for hyping it up, mental strength, transform the negatiefs around us into positiefs Jeeze I didnt hear more cos I was shouting at the radio

Why would giving a lot in one match affect your belief for the next match?? You got beaten by the best team in the world (expected) so now you feel you cannot beat one of the poorest teams in the PL?? Why doesn't anybody ask him to translate this BS, instead of just sitting there nodding & scribbling. Imagine the security of going into a press conference knowing you can just spout off any crap you like and not have to explain yourself nor field one intrusive question. What is going on here...?? Maybe a section of the "War Chest" is being handed over to journalists.

Just picked up a copy of the Evening Standard.
Wenger's face is on the front page. For a split second I hoped that he had resigned
But oh no the headline is "Wenger brands attacks on him as excessive" :banghead:

I mean wtf. This man is arrogant beyond belief.
Does he not realise that the criticism of him has barely started if we fail to win the league from the position the team was in??
And if he we lose to Spurs on Saturday I have a feeling it will be the last straw for many...

Who exactly should we be criticising then Arsene?

Every man and his dog knows we're serial bottlers and him and Theo are the only constants so maybe it is all Theo's fault :rubchin:

From sky sports website -

RAMS, FISHER DISCUSS NEW DEAL

There may be a change of scenery for the Rams next season in Los Angeles, but one thing the club doesn’t want to change is their head coach.

Jeff Fisher is entering the final season of a five-year deal signed back in 2012, and the franchise is keen to extend his contract
.

Fisher has an indifferent record as Rams coach, amassing a record of 27-36-1 in his four seasons in charge, failing to reach the playoffs and failing to achieve any winning seasons.

Does this storyline sound familiar to anyone ? Substitute the Rams for AFC and substitute jeff fisher with arsene wenger, and you have an exact mirror scenario unfolding - wiggy rewards mediocrity on both sides of the atlantic

Yes but apparently there's nothing wrong with that because Stan's a businessman

Stans idea of mediocrity and our idea of mediocrity are very different. In Wengers case, in Stans eyes, Wengers eyes, ( and plenty of gooners) hes rewarding success.

It is laughable to have this warchest story bandied about. TOF has fucked it all up again :banghead:

If we lose to Spurs on Saturday, and therefore our title challenge is all but over, would you: (a) put up with enough poor results to see us drop out of the top 4, and finally see Wenger under real pressure, or (b) support the team in every game regardless of whether it means we 'win' another VT.
If we don't finish 1st, I don't give a fuck where we finish (other than relegation).

TOF has more lives than ten cats. Always a flat track bully game or several to save his arse when the knives start to get sharpened :banghead:
Wilson wrote:Paul Merson bang on the money.

"'People may say there's nobody better than him, but there's a thousand managers who could come in and get Arsenal in the top four."

Absolutely spot on. That theory that Wenger is doing a great job to keep us in the top 4 is false. Guiding one of the biggest clubs in England with one of the biggest wage allocations and funds available for transfer, is not an achievement.
Absolutely. Any fucking manager worth his salt could get a VT with this side at a bare minimum. We've been shit for months and we're still near the top. Any fucking manager would make the changes that need to be made and perhaps win some trophies :banghead:

Unfortunately, most people write off what Merse says.

I have thought for a long time that the bastard IS a politician; a master of spin, lies and bullshit since we moved to Cashburton. He's not a football man any more :censored:
