"I am humble enough every day to question myself, to accept my mistakes, and believe me I do that. After that as well there is no coincidence that the people who own the club tell me to be here for 19 years."rodders999 wrote:“I worked for 35 years at the top level,” said Wenger. “What I find just boring is always sitting here after 19 years to face, 'Do you think you are good enough?’ I don’t know. I am humble enough every day to question myself, to accept my mistakes – and believe me, I do that.
“After that, as well, there is no coincidence that the people who own the club tell me to be here for 19 years. Do you think they are more stupid than you or me?
“I always have to convince you that I am good enough. I have no problem to cope with everything but I find that a bit boring.”
Arsenal were booed by many angry and frustrated fans after the 2-1 defeat by Swansea City last Wednesday and Wenger was asked if the attitude of supporters would influence whether he extended a contract that expires next year.
“You are the guy who speaks to the fans – it’s not me,” said Wenger. “I am not on Twitter. I don’t invite anybody to go out to dinner and be nice with them. I work and work and work and work. If it’s not good enough someone will tell me one day. That’s all I can do.
“I do not worry what you or fans say about me. I try to do my job in a proper way and with full commitment. After that everybody has the right to have an opinion. You do not make a decision if I continue my job or not.”
Earlier in the press conference, Wenger was also asked whether he had ever felt under more pressure during his tenure as manager.
“I have always the same pressure, the pressure I apply to myself is always the same,” he said. “After that, more people talk than 20 years ago, there are more opinions but the pressure comes from your desire to win games. That’s the only one that matters really. Opinions are opinions. I do my job – some day someone will replace me – and someone will replace you. That’s part of life. I always try to do my best so, when I leave the club, the guy coming in after me will have a good potential to work.”
Wenger was appointed Arsenal manager in 1996 and, as well as three Premier League titles and an all-time record six FA Cups, has steered the club through the delicate process of funding a new £390 million stadium while also always qualifying for the Champions League. The frustration of fans, however, stems from the wait since 2004 to win a domestic title and the sense the same on-field mistakes are repeatedly made amid Wenger’s caution in spending the club’s resources. His cash budget for squad investment of around £75 million was largely available in the past two transfer windows when Wenger’s only senior signings were Petr Cech and Mohamed Elneny.
While the club hope that he will continue beyond the expiry of his contract, his longer-term future will not be decided until this summer and perhaps not even until next year. Whether Wenger himself would want to continue if Arsenal cannot maintain a Premier League title challenge either this year or next is questionable and, in the shorter term, he is concerned the “relentless” pressure of fans could impact on the players’ confidence.
“I feel privileged to have the confidence of the club for a long time but, on the other hand, I work seven days a week with full commitment,” said Wenger. “I feel it is privilege to work at a club of that stature for such a long time.”
Arsenal have just completed a sequence of five matches in 15 days and will fly to Hull on the morning of the match for the first of four games in 12 days. Wenger will take a full squad but there are likely to be opportunities for players who did not start in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham, including Calum Chambers, Mathieu Flamini, Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
Depending on whether they beat Hull, Arsenal will face either Watford in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the Emirates on Sunday or West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday. “At the moment I try to keep the whole squad on alert and involve everybody,” said Wenger. “We play so many games at the moment that we sleep more in hotels. When I listen to people, should we lose a game in the FA Cup, it will be a disaster. You cannot say on one side it’s undervalued, and on the other side if we lose, it’s a disaster.”
As you said man and not manager I think you will find that blatter and platini would knock wenger into a cocked hat when it comes to arroganceTeeCee wrote:People on here think Maureenio is arrogant, and he is, but he can be because he is a winner and has proven it. But Wonga is the most arrogant man in world football, no doubt about it. He puts himself on a level no-one can touch. He doesn't think anyone else has a valid point of view or more importantly, a 'correct' point of view if it doesn't happen to match what he thinks. No wonder our club is full of yes men, it's what Wonga loves, he is a dictator in the true sense of the word. He can't even see.....or refuses to see.....that he could actually severely damage the club (in mine and many others he already has) but what I mean is, if he goes on as manager for the next 3 to 5 years, Arsenal are likely to lose most of their hardcore support and the stadium will be full of tourists and part time fans (I know there is a fair bit of that already too). He has no humility and no self awareness. He is dangerous, very dangerous to the club and the one man that can get rid of him is not interested in the sporting side of football, just the financial side of things. There is only one way that Wonga will be removed from Arsenal in the next 5 years IMO, and that is if Usmanov decides to make Kranky an offer he can't refuse, but to be honest, has he even got the balls to tell Wonga to go?? We are fucked......seriously, 4th place is the best we can hope for for years and years to come.
Wexit = quality, mate!dano wrote:Hey Arsene
I am bored with the tippy tappy, sideways passing, lack of tactics for the upcoming match, paying over the top for the overpaid tossers, players who don't put out the effort, all this times years and years of the same. I was not bored during the Henry, Patrick, Dennis days, but more than tired of the same old, same old you have been producing.

Yes we will judge you at the end of the season, but regardless of what happens, he will spin this season to make it seem like a successZiegler1988 wrote:https://twitter.com/btsportfootball/sta ... 3524602880
Is this our first "Judge me at the end of the season" this season?!
And of course "wrighty" has got right behind him again, calling the banner unfair. What a craven bunch those ex players are, Wright, Henry, Keown....... I seriously hope Barca give us the mother of all football lessons.Ikechukwu1 wrote:What's funny is that this c**t is always happy to talk about shit that doesn't concern him: record low oil prices, Chelski's spending, Citeh ownership model, Real Madrid managerial go-round, food prices, Brexit, the 2008 financial crisis, doping...usually subjects he knows fuck all about but has some idiotic opinion in anyway (what's that Wenker quote again? Ah yes "people will have opinions". He'd know eh!). But wait what's this? All of a sudden...he's being asked to comment on a topic that DIRECTLY relates to him...and he has zero interest! Weird that eh? Classic coward Wenker. Spineless like his team, brash and arrogant after swatting aside rubbish (a reflection of any Walcott post-game interview after thrashing shite)...but cowardly when it comes down to it. Happy to chat shit after beating tinpot team, won't after any game at Old Trafford
