Unfortunately it does not suit RvP, Bendtner, Arshavin or Denilson.
I don't know wether to laugh or cry.
or songs just playing better than ther are today...?
Not at all.
Last season Song played higher up the pitch in a two man midfield. Today and Vs Everton he's playing really deep with two in front. So he is already in the position last year he would have ambled to get into. That's why he got caught out so much last year, he didn't stick in that lower DM position. For the first two games he's stuck back there and is doing well.
However,
This sacrifices something else from the side, the ability to get more attacking flow, so far in two games. No matter what 8 goals say we've played way better in 45 minutes and scored none.
The front 3 is not working in general play. Breaking it looks good-ish. But Arshavin is fucking wasted, RvP the same. These are two player I could easliy argue to rank in the top 20 in the world.
But the ends justify the means. As long as ego's don't come into play and agents don't start talking up moves..........

This new system does not suit our front men. End. Of. Story. We can come on here and bleat about how woeful they were individually but the simple fact is that the system does not suit them and it showed tonight and it showed at everton
thought it worked well and wenger will use this a lot away from home. when we come across a better team it might not work but then again it might but you cant argue with 6-1 and 2-0 victories away from home
Tonight, with the exception of one really dangerous break when tv made an outstanding recovery to block brown, we were never really in danger. We controlled the midfield and looked solid at the back so from that point of view you can def say that the system suited the team. However lets be honest here and admit that we scored a freakish 1st goal and an og from a dangerous cross but what did we really create ? It is great that we finally got some overdue good luck for a change but it does not disguise the fact that we were largely toothless up front and for the 2nd game in a row arshavin, rvp and bedtner were nowhere near threatening. I would suggest that this system is very dependent on scoring the 1st goal and if we concede first in a game then we may struggle with the system
I agree with you we were not at our best going forward, and our forwards have not found there feet in the first couple of games, but we played 4-3-3 at the weekend and scored 6 goals so were are doing somethig right.
Rvp got two assists, bendnter played a part in denilsons goal and arshavins to poke set up eduardo so it is not as tho they have been anonymous, but they could be more involved in the game
With regards to the system being dependant on scoring the first goal, i think what helps us is it decreases the chances of conceding the first goal, as the team has a better shape is more compact and harder to break down.
Like i said tho augie i dont believe wenger will play this system at home but after playing two very hard away games, at the start of the season it has worked so far. In some games we may come unstuck playing this formation like against valencia, but wenger has favoured in the past this formation away from home and the players seem to be comfortable playing that way.
To change subject for a second I have to say that I was quite impressed with their midfield anchorman nguemo (or however you spell it ). I know that he hasnt got the big physical presence that most of us want in any new DM but he seemed to have the industry and energy of flamini and (dare I say it) palacios who has impressed me for the scum

I thought he was the spit of Diarra's conjoined twin personally.
I feel some of the comments slighty harsh against, i think the way we worked hard and hunted for the ball was a big difference from last season and impressed me 2nite.
I agree with RTP scoring and creating chance has never really been a problem, getting the ball back, tracking runners, pressing earlyer higher up the pitch and genrally creating pressure on the other team was what we missed out on last season.
In regards to the 4-3-3 formation i find it hard to question it at the moment with 2 away wins at hard places to go and get a result. I think the system suits Song alot better allowing him to stay closer to the half-way line and break play down alot better.
My only gripe with 2nite is why did Fabregas have to play 90mins after the Everton game espeicaly with a tight hammy???? I cant see him playing much of a part in the Pompey game.
The traveling fans did us proud lots of niose and support well done !!!

Big man, you asked a few questions there and I'm sure you know the answer deep down to most of them.
Arsenal have a relatively small squad. In terms of the players with real or partial experience. We cannot forever each game harangue the opposition chasing them down and play the beautiful stuff at the same time. Something must give. So far it's going to be the good stuff at the top from what I've seen. But equally the players nutting it around the pitch are going to get creamed playing 3 times a week. No way it can keep up. Cesc stayed ojn the pitch as 2-0 Vs 20 Million is an easy decision.
So with 13 or so days to go, no matter the form, every sign points towards re-enforcements needed. Or else come February we are going run the fuck out of steam.
celtic fans were shit including their only song walk on. reminded me of newcastle fans living on the past but know their outclassed nowadays,"its all so quiet, its all so quiet, its all so quiet at parkhead" easy game and we outsung them for the whole match, did it sound like that on the tv

The Sky coverage in the pub did not make it sound that way.
they must have had microphones in the celtic end then, they were soooo quiet, i promise you, Arsene gave us a wave twice so he could hear us ok. especialy liked "you should have gone to see u2" song nere the end. i think they were just a bit overawed by the occasion or they ran out of buckfast to early cos the only noise i heard all night apart from us was the undertones
