What would appease you for letting Cesc leave the club?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

BDB,

The guy from spain that Talkshite talk to is quite a good journailst. He knew when talks took place between AW and Cesc. Cesc wanted a face to face this morning.

I know we have disagreed about one or two things in the past but right now I hope you are right. My spider senses, however, are definately tingling. If you are right I'll get you a pint at the first home game but I think I am going to be crying in my beer all summer.

I am genuinely gutted. This feels as big as Paris. This is a cross-road moment for the club. This is the first time that a contracted player, not even in his prime yet, wants to leave. I can't think of anyone under AW that hasn't been sold at what can be argued to be the right time. This is so evidently the wrong time for Arsenal that no-one in their right mind can fail to see this as anything but a slap in the face for The Arsene Project.

This is massive for the Arsenal if it is true. It's more than just losing Cesc. It's one of our very few world class footballers giving up the armband because he wants to win things. This is a clear sign to the footballing world that Arsenal are not an attractive club. We are bringing about our own eviction from the top tier of European football. The only thing rising at Arsenal are the shares.

How many Barca games have you actually watched. If you think Iniesta is any less devestating at LW than he is at CM then clearly not many.

Barca have their wing backs for width and Busquets has played more games than Yaya and Keita.

Not quite as devestating - but still bloody good

Busquets - is that not due to injury & ACN. Hasn't he been coming in for Iniesta rather than YT/K?

I don't give a shit about what formation Barca play or will play.

My bigger concern is the massive gap in the midfield which might appear.

Have a pair of Barca fans invaded? Who gives a flying fuck about their formation?

Just as they did with Henry (to dispel the myth of their moral right to do so with Cesc) they have publicly touted our captain. It has worked. UEFA don't give a shit unless they catch a prize scalp from the Premier League touting a player.

I can't stand Barca. I don't give a rats arse if you have seen them play more than Juan, Gunnerdude.

Brilliant but very sad post, CC.

This certainly feels like more than usual Barca shit-stirring this time. The bookies odds, the 'deciding my future before the world cup' statement, the lack of denial coming from cesc, the glum face on the last day of the season...

And i do think it could have been avoided. PHW shouting his mouth off, the club investing the Man City money THIS season or any of the last 5 and not waiting for players to become free... :banghead:

I still think it could be premature for Cesc to go now as where after Barcelona can he go? But he is obviously seeking reassurances that Wenger just isnt giving him.

And I susopect the sahres are the Board's sole real concern now and have been some time.

I think only if THEY feel the pressure from US will there be any positive change - whether they have to make it themselves or have to pressure this manager to make it or pressure his sucessor to make it. The thing is its too late this year. We should not have renewed memberships or season tickets until we got some sort of answers from the Board on the way forward. Instead all we got is more of the same silence and selling of assets.

They may Geordies and we may think oursleves above their behavior but we could use some Newcastle-type supporterss I think who would upset the apple-cart a bit. As far as the Board is concerned we're all 100% behind anything they and the club do I fear. They need to know that just isn't true anymore. In truth they should have known this all along.

If this transfer goes ahead, it will also dispel this myth that there is from the "Arsene Knows" Brigade that if Wenger were to leave, all our top players (including Fabregas) would be heading out the door straight after him.

Sorry to say, but these players will be leaving us alot earlier than when Wenger leaves :?

Yes, that reminds me of something from the Onlie Ed the other day recalling a text from the Highbury Spy: "The players have stopped playing for him" or words to that effect.

If he wants to go, let him and go. And milk as much money as you can.

You can't let a player stay if his mind is elsewhere.
