True, but it might go a little way to mending the broken relationship between players and fans that exists.

I would think the opposite quartz - if this guy doesnt work out then it will be another bargain basement flop from wenger at a time when the fans are crying out for proven quality purchases and this poor guy could get caught in the crossfire. When this guy takes to the field he will be under immense pressure as part of the wenger experiment to justify his ability at a time when the crowd frustration levels is extremely high and that wont be fair on the guy

He will be under a lot of pressure for sure.

But my guess is that he will be used in the domestic cups in his first season.

He simply will not have the experience to be dropped straight into the Premier League/Champions League (injury crisis excepted).

He is though an Arsenal fan from a Arsenal family, and just maybe he will be a bit more amenable to fans when they meet him, than some of the foreign players, and a bit more aware of things like the implications of one of our players talking about how he owns a Spurs shirt.

I agree, he will be under a different sort of pressure, he cost 1m so straight away the only way is up and the fact that he's a supporter and we know he's a supporter means that he will be allowed a tiny bit of slack, he will also probably be on such a high that it will drive him on to play well.

Him playing in the CC is no more risky than Lansbury or Coquelin playing, if he copes then he copes, he certainly won't face the same pressure Smalling did who cost a lot but coped well.

Justin Hoyte too, and the most impressive thing he did as an Arsenal player was pork Tom Hundredstone’s bird.

I think the fans can be a bit more forgiving when they are one of us. He does seem quite over awed and shocked by the whole thing from his interview but he has said all the right things and I think the supporters will give him the time. At least from the off it seems he cares a great deal about the club and we definitely need a bit of that

Wenger excited by Jenkinson signing

Arsène Wenger has stressed his delight at the signing of 19-year-old defender Carl Jenkinson, who the joined the Club on Wednesday.

The highly-rated full back became Wenger’s first capture of the summer when he put pen to paper on a move from Charlton Athletic.

“We were watching Carl for some time and he is a player with great talent and natural defensive ability, but also a powerful player who likes to go forward,â€

I remember the day Bergkamp signed. This is one of those moments. We are going to win the league because Wenger always gets his defensive signings spot on !!!!!!!!

At least he is a Arsenal Fan and his dad has been a season ticket holder for 40 years,

Might keep him at the club if he makes it big and others want him ,

How does a kid leap from League 1 youth team (with a few first team appearances) to top 4 Premiership squad member?

Good luck to him but it's a massive punt by the club.

I'm just happy to see a player come who actually has some appreciation for the kit. You think his dad is going to put up with him dragging his ass on the pitch when he's been a fan of the Arsenal for 40 years? Absolutely not.

He might not be an immediate solution to our pressing concerns defensively, but I'm hoping he will be a good option for now, develop into a player, and be like Jack in terms of his loyalty and service.

Frankly if we're not going to win a trophy, at least we could have a team worthy of cheering for. Jenkinsons over Diaby's anyday :P

Great post Barrie and one I almost fully concur with.

However, for all my admiration/appreciation/man-crush on Wilshere, we haven't seen his loyalty yet. Yeah, we've seen commitment in spades, and passion, but his loyalty hasnt been tested yet IMO.

Ambition and/or money will always overcome loyalty.

Would he have signed for us if another team was offering him £10k per week?

If he makes it as a regular first teamer and doesn't win trophies or thinks he is not paid enough he will surely be tempted to move?

Let's see how good he is first. If he is not good enough this forum will soon let us know.

Martinez says Hi.

Also why should it exist? This is a job, as if we wouldn't go to the job that pays the most. We're fans so we are blinkered, but to these guys its a job. Most players don't support the team they played for. I don't begrudge them at all. I think showing a lack of respect to a club is far worse than Nasri deciding to go somewhere because they've offered him shit loads of cash. Can you honestly say you wouldn't take it?
