THAT chant being sold online.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We dont have to use Amazon

Post by d707 »

I have just complained about this slanderous chant to Amazon, mentioning that its easy to link it to the chants to Wenger and that I hope they find themselves in legal hot water over it. Also - that I personally couldnt countenance buying from them if thats what they are selling. There are alternatives: Ottakars or Foyles.co.uk, thebookpeople, ....

E-mailed Amazon, Play, The F.A, Arsenal, Man U, Kick It Out & The L.M.A regarding this matter.

Something needs to be done as an absolute disgrace - fair play to the Mancs response! Arsenals response

The response from both Play & Amazon just beggers belief :awnker:

Deleted both websites from my favourites as won't be using them to buy anything again, and will be "persuading" others I know to do so also  :heads:

I hope someone with half a brain in the media picks this up and reports it with the intelligence that it needs!

Fair play to MU. Whether they do anything is up for debate, but it's nice to see something other than an automated letter.

At least Play.com has withdrawn this filth (for now). I just received this from their PR representative. I guess Hill and Knowlton will not allow one of their clients to sell libellous garbage. I will write to thank both firms.
Now get this out as much as possible and let's shame Amazon. Guys keeping up the pressure works. Please send an email or call Amazon if you haven't already (I sent an email to the UK and US operations). Stay polite and calm but insist that this in unacceptable. Let them know that you won't buy anything from them and will strongly discourage friends and family to avoid them unless this insulting item is removed.

--------------------------------------
The email from Hill and Knowlton:

Thank you for writing to Play.com with your concerns about one of the MP3 products in our catalogue.

With an MP3 catalogue of over 5 million products, it is impossible for us to monitor every product which is listed. The MP3 in question was automatically uploaded over the Bank Holiday weekend. Once we receive a complaint like this, we take the issue very seriously and action a response as quickly as possible.

As this issue was raised over the Bank Holiday weekend, we were only able to action a response on Tuesday morning, when Play.com staff returned. The product in question has now been removed from sale from Play.com.

We value all customer comments, and I thank you again for taking the time to send us your feedback on this occasion. We apologise for any offence this issue has caused you.

We hope you will continue to let Play.com serve you in the future.

Regards

Account Manager

I have a good knowledge of media law - in particular libel laws and in my view was Arsene Wenger to take legal action against any of these companies selling this horrible chant he would have a very good case. Each time someone republishes material such as this they are putting themselves at risk of a libel case - even though they haven't created it themselves. It doesn't even matter that M. Wenger is not named - if just one person believes the chant to refer to him it would be good enough for him to take each of these companies to court. I have pointed this out in my complaint to Amazon and I just hope they take notice. Can't believe they have said it's freedom of expression - swear words and other offensive content is one thing - accusing someone of committing a dispicable crime is quite another. Well done at least to the MUFC staff for recognising this.

I've just sent an e-mail to amazon.co.uk - stating my absolute opposition to this - It really is DISGRACEFUL, I have spent a fortune on DVD's & CD's on Amazon, and have said if they do not remove it form sale immediatley I shall take my custom elsewhere.

I also sent both a e-mail and a letter (Snail Mial) to manure - asking them to explain why nothing had been done to stop such disgusting behaviour by their fans.

Pointing out that Fergie had complained about 'the lack of security' at Arsenal's ground because when they came to the grove in the 2007-08 season a few Gooners had chanted

"Are You Krusty In Disguise" - at least that's 'Witty' :D

Which he took great offence to. I headlined/subject of my communique's was 'Security at Old Trafford' - I am still waiting for a reply - doubt very much that I'll get a reply of any kind to either my letter or e-mail.

BTW: I think Augie is Right - I fully understand those who think it a bit 'strog' to do a chant about Munich - But, we have been calling for something to be done about this for years now, and NOTHING ever is!...so time to play them at their own game (pun not intended)...

They want to play dirty - Fine bring it on....also I think we should flood both radio 5 live , talksport (even though the latter IS shyte)...with complaints and with requests explaining that the matter has been raised by numerous Gooners on countless occasions and still manure /spuds etc do Nothing!... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I'll do all I can yo ensure I get a ticket for our home game against the mancsum.....

Let's Get Organised Well In Advance Agree On A Chant...and Let The Scumbag/s have it!

:barscarf: ARSENAL TILL I DIE :barscarf:

Just out of interest is the "Munich song" available on these sites too? It's not that I'm too lazy to look myself, I'm still at work.

Thank you for your response to my complaint.

I am considering the compilation of my own album of distasteful football chants/songs.

This would include references to the following subjects:

The Manchester United Munich disaster in which many people died,
The Hillsborough disaster in which 89 Liverpool fans were killed,
The Ibrox disaster in which Glasgow Rangers fans were killed,
Tottenham Hotspur fans being referred to as "****" in regard to their Jewish fanbase,
The Chelsea player Ashley Cole being accused of homosexuality and a sex act which involves the insertion of a mobile phone in his anus,
The Notts County player Sol Campbell similarly accused,
Sectarian songs between fans of Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic,
Generally violent chants such as "you're gonna get your fuckin heads kicked in",

Would you kindly confirm that this content would fall within your "acceptability" criterion, and that you would have no objection to offering the product for sale on your website.

Thank you

I just sent this to Amazon

fuckers! i'm gonna send them twice as many e-mails now!!
I recommend we vote with our wallets and get everyone we know who supports Arsenal to do the same as it will be a cold day in hell before they remove the chant from their catalogue.

Post your disgust this chant to Arsenal newsgroups, forums, blogs etc. Spread the word about amazon and play then hit them where it hurts, in their pockets.

I don't know if any of you read the letters page on skytext page 459?? But there's always a bit of banter on there and I've wrote in a few times and always been published.

That is until Monday when I wrote in a comment about the disgusting chant towards our manager from united "fans". Sky took the decision not to publish it.

That's what we're up against.

the situation got a mention by Barry Glendenning on AC Jimbo's podcast over on the guardian. Not much of a mention, but still.
