On your point about our players playing better in internationals, I thought that too today, especially while watching Arshavin who suddenly seemed to have regained his magic, touch, vision, pace and skill for Russia.

I didnt get to see the Ireland game myself (stupid fcuking job ) but my cousin did text me to say that arshavin was outstanding cos they played him in a central position. Seeing a player, believing him good enough to improve your team only to then continually play him out of position is absolutely fcuking ridiculous and only our dickhead manager would continue to do something that stupid

Good point re his position but the guy was also playing with far more passion, fight and work ethic than he ever shows for us. So it's not just about him being misused. He just doesn't want to play for us, imo.

Welsh fan killed after the game tonight. Horrible news. Apparently a fellow sheepshagger was the culprit, fuelled by Cardiff/Swansea rivalry.

All well and good being rivals but surely there is a line you can't cross?

I think he hates the England national team and the shite around it, certainly not England the country.

I dont see whats wrong with what he said? Its just like Wales see themselves as Englands rivals as do all the home nations. Passionate Welshman it looks like to me.

Anyway I think hes a top bloke.

Personally I think he should keep his fucking mouth shut- a lot of supporters of clubs where he has made his money also support the English national team and an attack on England is an attack on them. Still, much though I hate the *word censored* and wish him nothing but ill fortune in the remainder of his life, I will refrain from saying too much having heard the news of a wales fan losing his life before the match in what appears to be a Swansea v Cardiff attack. This shows why people who are respected and have succeeded in the sport shouldnt fuel fires, absolutely tragic news and my heart goes out to the lad and his family

Word of advice mate. However much you are normally welcomed, don't call our ex-players *word censored*. Particularly not players who grafted hard for the Club and always back our corner. I've read the article and I don't see the issue with it. Wales and England are like Spurs and Arsenal or you and the Barcodes. He doesn't hate the country, he hates the hype surrounding the football team. He's right - we are a pile of shit, built up as if we are top dogs. For me, England are the Spurs of international football..... We won the top prize in the 60s, and have lived off it ever since, claiming that "this is our year" at every major tournament....

I agree, really poor form safcftm. I know you're passionate about England which is fair enough, but Johnny Hartson is the last person I'd call a *word censored*, regardless of whether he loves England or not, which by the way he's not obliged to.

Well, I think he is playing up to a wrongly perceived view of England. which england fans go around saying "this is our year"? I'd wager only the sky boy *word censored* who never actually go away from home watching them. Most real england fans are intelligent enough to know our limitations and our weaknesses and realise that we wont even get close to winning the euros (we'll qualify, might scrape through the group stages, and will then lose to the first decent side we play). To judge england from, in the main, plastic *word censored* fans shows a lack of intelligence imo

Ah fuck it, maybe he does just mean the national team and not the country, but I think it is a comment he didnt need to make. He sits there saying how much he hates the england side but is happy to take money for commenting on them, having taken money for playing for clubs with fans many of whom, support them. I think ITV should have got some other welsh bloke to comment who is pro wales but doesnt bitterly hate the england side, I wouldnt have given him the platform to spout his shit had it been my decision.

Still, I see your point, and Im aware a lot of gooners will like him but as i say, i wouldnt want to be here just to make comments in favour of AFC and their players/ ex players, my opinions on arsenal are generally quite clear in that i respect them but i dont think anyone would want a fan of another club to be here on some kind of arse kissing exercise so if the odd comment goes against the grain as this one has then, well, so be it. I'm not a fan of Hartson, have said as much, the comment isnt generally agreed with so fair play, all about opinions!

This is a guy who had testicular cancer which spread to his brain and almost killed him, a loving father and husband, a fair player on the field and a genuine guy to boot.

Basically, yes. Listen, I have had relatives and loved ones who have gone through having cancer. Whatever his opinions are on England and its national team, I'm not insensitive enough to wish the bloke anything but the absolute best in his efforts having fought the disease off to continue fending it off. I hope it has been beaten for good in his case and I hope he lives a very long fulfilling life free from it.

What I would say, however, is that I wont treat someone differently simply because he has had a disease. If I think his comments make him a *word censored*, he would probably rather be called it than have someone pussy foot around it because he has had cancer, I'm sure he wants to be treated just like anyone else. I think he is a bit of a *word censored* so i will say as much. In a footballing sense (coaching, punditry etc) I hope he fails in everything he does following his negative comments about the England team. As a bloke, I hope he manages to live a long and healthy life enjoying the company of his family. I dont think ITV should have invited him onto their panel, but in the actual important sense of living and enjoying the time one has on this earth, I dont wish him any ill. I still think hes a *word censored* though, and he probably wouldnt want it any different

Safcftm - there's no shame or harm in being patriotic, mate. You are entitled to your opinion. I think the thing on here (and with a hell of alot of the English Arsenal fans I've met) is that alot of Gooners just don't really give much of a fuck about the current England team, populated as it is by human garbage like Cashley, PigLips Ferdinand, the Granny Rapist and chav scum Terry. It tends to be club before country.

I'm much the same. Sure, I'd like to see a decent Oireland side do well, but I'd much much rather The Arsenal do well tbh. And in all honesty the last really good Oirish side we had was populated mostly by Engerlish and Scotish rejects!
