if Ospina keeps another clean sheet v Spurs then he is our new number 1.
has he actually conceded a goal for us yet?

Early days but I'm liking Ospina. Calm and collected. Gobby can go with his ego as far as I'm concerned

I believe three.
Two vs Southampton in the League Cup and a pen in the CL vs Gala.

One of the Saints goals was a pen too, so one so far in open play. That was a screacher from 30 yards. At the time I did wonder if he could have done better though with it, though replays dont confirm that.
Need to hold on to optimism though, he hasnt had much of a test yet, will be interesting to compare to the best goalie in the league this year v Scum

Re: Time to bench Chesney/Goalkeeper problem?
Ospina seems to be doing OK, he seems a lot calmer in Goals than the cocky one, long may his progress continue.

Re: Time to bench Chesney/Goalkeeper problem?
I found it wierd and wonderful at the same time to see a keeper (an Arsenal keeper to boot) come and actually catch the ball through a somewhat crowded box. Not punching, flapping or finding himself stranded in no-mans-land but catching the ball.
Is this a new thing?
I hope it catches on.......

He's certainly a lot more calmer at corners and the defence doesn't look as worried (I've always got the feeling Per doesn't particularly like Shez)
I do think he's been rather fortunate that our defensive game improving has coincided with him being in goal. But everything that's come his way he's been good with. I hope he continues to be untested throughout the season!

If rumours are to believed they don't like one another at all.rigsby wrote:He's certainly a lot more calmer at corners and the defence doesn't look as worried (I've always got the feeling Per doesn't particularly like Shez)

I just hope we keep winning; as long as we do Ospina cannot be dropped and hopefully Szczesny is gone for good come summer.

In The Mirror online, but reported in TheStar so probably a large pile of bs

Arsene Wenger has warned David Ospina that he's not yet won the race to become his new No.1, report the Star.
Alex LiveseyDavid Ospina of Arsenal diuves as David Silva of Manchester City looks onImpressive: But Ospina is still not Wenger's number one
The Colombian has featured in every Premier League game for the Gunners since their 2-0 at Southampton in Decemeber.
But despite his impressive record, the Arsenal chief is warning the player against carried away with his run in the first team.
“David Ospina has had some time to settle because he was injured when he arrived here,” Wenger said.
“During that time we could see his dedication, his and his quality. He’s in a fight with Wojciech Szczesny to start at the moment.
"Wojciech is the No.1 but David has played recently. Can he retain the shirt in the coming games? We’ll decide that.

Neither is world class, which is what you want if you are going to win the Premiership/Champions league .....
Cech is better than the both of them

The scouse big nose on sky, has just criticised ospina's performance against the scum on Saturday - he said that at crucial times he let them down and had "chocolate wrists"

I've heard a lot of people saying they don't rate Ospina but I don't think the fella can really be slated at all on the evidence of what I've seen so far. Yeah he likes a punch rather than a catch, but he actually saves quite a lot of shots.......eh Ches ?

To be fair his decision-making on coming for the ball has generally been excellent. Think he got caught once against Villa but he comes as much as he can to take pressure off us defensively, without starting to hare off his line without a second thought as soon as the ball was kicked.SteveO 35 wrote:I've heard a lot of people saying they don't rate Ospina but I don't think the fella can really be slated at all on the evidence of what I've seen so far. Re: Time to bench Chesney/Goalkeeper problem?
Question is, is Ospina as good as the Citeh, Chelski, S'oton and Yernited keepers?
Answer: nowhere near. Lloris is also miles better. He isn't good enough to be Arsenal number 1! As with people talking up Chez as he basically replaced turd Almunia; Ospina just happens to not be utter shite like Shez.
Ospina did some good things on Saturday but frankly, he takes a lot of blame for that first goal. Courtois, Lloris, Foster etc would have all been in a position to catch that weak first header - instead he palms it straight back to Kane. That ball shoulda been caught. Ospina isn't a kid, he's old enough and was at flipping Nice!
