Arsenal are making a late move to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz. The club are preparing a bid up to £25m. [@JackRosser_] #afc
No idea what he’s like as a player (apart from corner kick taking ability ) but only being a sub at Villa sets the alarm bells ringing… unless he’s a sub for other reasons like not signing a contract or recently injured?
I listened to an episode of "off the ball" podcast the other day and they were making the point that the victims and ath madrid are generally recognised as two clubs who are very shrewd in the transfer market and both are linked with luiz who slippy g isnt picking even though they are struggling, and the consensus amongst the journo's is that it is a bad refection on manager not player
I read a three year contract was agreed beginning of season and he changed his mind , therefore hasnt been played.
Pep wanted him but couldn't get a work permit in 2018.
Interesting to see these comments about Douglas Luiz - hasn't really been one on my radar, but seems like the story has a lot of legs now. It is interesting that he can't get into a struggling Villa side, but that might be more to do with Gerrard than it is him. Also some players respond better to moving up a level
What's clear is that we need someone in that position and in today's money £20-£30m is not a lot - if we can nab him - for a player it seems Pep and others have admired for some time
Same old story a couple of.ayers away from a decent squad, as ever with wenger .why are we not signing a CM.
All of us on here knew this would happen at some point, we make some encouraging signings but always fall short in making sure we are properly covered.
I can live without a striker I suppose now although it's a big gamble but CM is now absolutely crucial yet we look to be leaving ourselves short as ever. When will this club learn.
Sambi stinking the place out again tonight.
So fucking frustrating...they dangle hope and then don't follow through.
If this danilio is so good and only 25m just pay it. Its peanuts.
A bit harsh! Thought he was solid!
i posted this pre game in anticpation!!! glad he did well! but still cannot rely on him
Jesus we really write players off early these days , gi e the kud a chance, he was excellent first half , second season with more games hopefully he'll grow.
Where have I written him off?
He could be a good player but do you think we can and should rely on him this season? Based in previous evidence anyone would say no.

' Sambi stinking the place out ' before hes even played is hardly a ringing endorsement
I think there is a player there but yes we need another as Ive always said pre season.

For players like Sambi, I think this is the beauty of being back in the Europa League. He should be a starter in all six group games as well as any domestic cup games....so he gets a good mixture of different styles and types of football. If we were in the CL, he would likely be loaned out somewhere. There's nobody in that group to be fearful of and will be good experience for the lad as it was with other younger players like Saka and Martinelli in seasons gone by. Nketiah and Matt Turner would be two others you'd hope to see regularly.
When word reached Pep Guardiola in 2018 that work-permit issues were preventing Douglas Luiz from playing for Manchester City, he sent video footage to the Home Office explaining how Luiz would be important to his side in the months & years ahead. [@TheAthleticUK via @City_Xtra]
Luiz has good PL experience, would fit in very well with the other boys from Brazil, I hope we get him, anything up to 25m would be good for a player of his age. I've read that Stevie G has a problem with him for not signing a new contract.
Come on Arsenal, don't leave it until the last minute or someone will nick him!!
Arsenal have agreed to let Hector Bellerin join Barcelona. Free transfer - not a contract termination. 27yo awaiting permission to travel for medical after agreeing terms with #FCBarcelona. Taking a pay cut & waiving any payments #AFC owe @TheAthleticUK
