Goodbye Eduardo

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Pre injury looked like best natural striker at the club since Ian Wright.

Post injury looked a shadow of that.

Seemed like a nice guy, feel sad but truth is he could no longer justify a place in the squad.

I meant to add to my previous post, and I've mentioned it before, but I also think the huge media furore against him with the penalty gained against Celtic also affected him deeply, but you could also see, especially with one on one's with keeper's he was definitely pulling up and out of tackles with them, not only protecting his injury, but also collisons with keepers that may have gained penalties, on another day. (even though we had numerous penalties turned down after this)

The sooner that Brum are relegated the sooner this horrible c**t is sacked.
While I agree that McLeish is an utter filthy *word censored*, I don't think Ferguson would send his players out to injure players (except the 2004 roughing up of Reyes - nothing too dangerous, just dirty play). McLeish is in a club with Mark Hughes, Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis in the violent thug category. They know they have a bunch of skill-deficient footballers and they have no alternative but to injure players.

This very English "win at all costs" mentality is why the national side has won fuck all for 44 years, and why the elite clubs in this country have changed very little in the last 30 years.

In the end, he showed a mental weakness and that was his downfall. Lets hope Ramsey can come back better.

And just goes ti show how much shite Wenger talks every day, when only a few months ago, he said Eduardo was back and even better than he was pre injury.

Then sold for a paltry 6m. Even less than he was bought from. In fact if you measure our recent signings most have been an utter joke.

Now that it's been confirmed that he'd gone, I would like to wish Eddie the absolute best of luck for the future, not just in terms of football but his life overall. I hope that he achieves everything he wants to achieve, fulfils all of his ambitions and gets as much success as he deserves. Never have I felt so emotional about an Arsenal player as I did with Eduardo.

For me, he'll always be remembered, not for being on the receiving end of that horrendous tackle, but for all his endeavours in the Arsenal shirt - his cool finishes, his flicks and classy touches, his silent celebrations; they will not be forgotten.

All the best at your new club Eduardo! :barscarf:

Similar to everybody else I wish the dude nothing but the best of luck for the rest of his career. I do sometimes feel that his importance/impact has been exagerated somewhat because of the nature of his injury but the sad thing is that we will never know just how good he could have been for us :(

I understand that Digs, that's why I said 'similar' in my original post, but I still wouldn't trust the red nose one, and perhaps, the only reason he doesn't target us in the same way or the way he did in 2004, is because he doesn't consider us as a real threat anymore. :? :?

Following the confirmation of his transfer to Shakhtar Donetsk, Eduardo has spoken to Arsenal.com and asked if the following message could be passed on:

"Before I start a new chapter in my career with Shakhtar Donetsk, I just wanted to send a message to all my friends at Arsenal.

"The past few days have been very emotional for me. Although I am excited about the challenge ahead with my new club Shakhtar Donetsk, I am so sad to be leaving my home for the past three years - Arsenal Football Club.

"Arsenal is a very special football club and I will miss so many people - my team mates, all the staff and of course, the wonderful Arsenal supporters.

"I would just like to thank everyone for your support during my time at Arsenal. When I first came to England, I could not speak the language and knew nobody, but as soon as I arrived I was made to feel at home and part of this big family. Also, I want to say thank you to the Arsenal supporters - you have been fantastic to me and always sung my name and I will never forget this.

"I had some very difficult times with my injury, but Arsenal was always there for me - the medical staff, the management, the players and the supporters. Thank you everybody.

"Although I have now left the Club, Arsenal will always be in my heart. I will always look for the Arsenal results and of course, I wish Arsène Wenger and the great players at the Club well for next season and the future."
This is like the opposite of the Adebayor transfer - it just makes me really sad
