Sorry boys, but I am firmly with Gus here. Yes, Eboue might make a better winger than full back. But the fact that I'd make a better footballer than pop star doesn't mean I'd be any good at it!
Yes, he's put in a couple of good crosses, but is this really enough evidence for you lot to be really confident of him being a top class winger? If it is, then I think our standards have seriously dropped. Take a look at Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Arjen Robben. Are you seriously trying to tell me that Eboue is going to be a winger of similar quality? If he isn't, then he's fine as a stop-gap, but we need a world class (don't want to enter a debate as to what 'world class' is) winger, rather than a converted full-back.

I wasn't suggesting we buy Ronaldo, I was asking whether or not we thought that Eboue was a player of similar quality.TheOne2Smooth wrote:I dont want a Ronaldo at Arsenal I want a good team not serveral good players!
Eboue can play on the wing as he has shown in recent games linking upm well with Sagna. He was amazing Vs the spuds in the carling cup!
Anyway, your post confuses me. Are you suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo (now this is pointless, as we won't sign him, nor someone of his quality - I'm just curious as to what you think) would be incapable of being part of a good team? As much as I hate to say it, Utd are are a good team (you don't win the league by being a poor team) and he is a big part of it. So I don't really see where you were going with that.

no but I believe without a so called superstar we cannot be callled a one man team like we usually are called! Ronaldo was the best player in the league last year but would I have a player of theat stature and skill at Arsenal????? no he doesnt fit in to the team. and the team would have to suit him and not visa versa
I couldn't care less what we're called as long as we're winning. George Graham years, anyone?TheOne2Smooth wrote:no but I believe without a so called superstar we cannot be callled a one man team like we usually are called!
He might fit in to the team, but I agree in the sense that he might not. So fair enough. However, I've digressed. Back to Eboue - my point was that we do not need Cristiano Ronaldo or Arjen Robben etc, but we do need a player who qualifies as a world class winger because even if Manu had supplied 20 great crosses last year, I still would not be convinced in to thinking he was a good enough winger.TheOne2Smooth wrote:no he doesnt fit in to the team. and the team would have to suit him and not visa versa
That's my point really. Eboue may well do a good job every now and then, but he is way too inconsistent. He would be OK as cover for someone else, but if we're all convincing ourselves that he's going to be a great winger for us on a regular basis, then we really are settling for second best.

Wenger knows! Wenger made Lauren a midfield player a class right back also made Toure a top notch centre back when he was originally a centre midfielder. not to mention Petit a right back into a centre midfielder and The winger that was Henry into one of the greatest forwards in thje game!
Wenger knows and in Wenger I trust if he said Eboue could play in goal I would believe him

I agree we need a decent winger (on either side) .
Overmars, Pires, Reyes (he's a prick but played well out wide).
With those players we could turn defense into attack very quicky, and that makes the other team afriad to comit players forward.
We see what clichy did last game, we need someone further forward who can do that every game.
We are good wide players away from a realy good team, like the champion arsenal teams of late, where we would turn the oponents corner into a break away goal.
We have a solid striker in RVP and possible good striker in Dudo, we have a man that can pick the pass in middle Cesc, we need a guy out wide to link the them.
Most of those types of goals went from veria (picks a pass), to bobby / fredie then to Anelka / Henry / Bergkamp. and we would be bearing down on goal in mater of seconds.
If we can't produce that from the youth at the minute then we have to buy it in, not play someone out of position.

Gus, u have gotta admit that Eboue has confou nded many a critic with his handling of the right wing .. granted, he is probably not the best in a conventional sense, by in my opinion, he has been more than just OK .. he has been great during the friendlies, and there is plenty room for improvement ...
Arsenal has shown that they are not fopllowers of names, but of performance ... Eboue lookms better to me in the flesh, than a hopefully-great ribery et al ...
Give the guy some chance b4 writing him off .. he has made great strides, and could get even better ...
