toure is no loss he wouldnt strengthen city, a couple of years back yes, now no. Hes error prone, too short, constantly out of position, a panicky influence and as his pace wanes he cant get himself out of situations he creates with his errors.

initially i always thought he was too little and positionally inept, but he made up for that with pace and power, (the inter game at highbury when he was up against martins summed this up) now these are going hes not top class anymore.

a ok defender but not good enough 1st choice for a top 4 team anymore. (if ever).

it probably has something to do with the size of his humongous arse....

Maybe Richard Dunne will be included in the deal?

I'd be sad to see him go, but have to admit that most people would have known for a while either he or Gallas needed to leave. Toure already tried to go, and right now, forgetting his efforts of the past, Toure is the lesser of the two defenders.

Great service to the club, we certainly had his best years. He won't add anything to City that would have me fearing their defence.

I am just having trouble getting my head round selling players to teams in the same league as us. Usually they go abroad so you dont have to worry about them anymore.

Gooner legend, past his best and $14m is silly money for a player that will miss 6weeks for the ANC and then come back injured

As someone said above, we cant have both Gallas and Toure in the first team, neither will accept being a sub (and shouldnt at their point in their careers) so naturally one will go, IMO Gallas is the better defender so im not too upset.

A Gooner man, but a good deal - hopefully he will be replaced with another good CB.

Why sell Toure, make us weaker and possible rivals even stronger - Adebeyor i couldnt give a toss about - he will flop big time, but Toure has been our most consistent defender for years !!

And the tail end of last year just proves that, if Vermalen is big strong and good in the air which i hope he is 0 he would be ideal player alongside Toure, and with best Fullbacks in world in Cliche and Sagne - finally our back 4 may be getting more intimidating like defences of old.
Also plyers like Yaya, Diarra, that is what we truly need at this club - no more attacking players - lets get the DM position sorted and if so get rid of Sylvester, Senderos and Gallas and get in a big bastard of a centre back that will strike fear into opponents attackers - rather than the other way around

Thats down to the man who can do no wrong in your eyes! If he thinks this squad is strong enough after loosing another 2 players (yes one was a lazy *word censored*) to win the league then he is deluded. Just look what happened after loosing 2 starters last season.... Scapping against Villa.

Time is ticking, its nearly August, and, even though im happy we signed someone, all we got is an unproven Tomas Vermalen, not exactly the player who is going to win us the league is he...

Toure has ONE year left on his contract, and with Gallas still at the club, and with the signing of Vermaelen, it may be that Toure is far from certain of being a first team regular this season.

If he's not a regular, then it's doubtful he'll sign a new contract, so if we don't sell him now, he'll walk for free next summer.

If reports are right, £14-15m is a lot of money for a defender entering the last year of his contract... especailly a defender who has had problems with his form and fitness over the last 2 seasons!

That said, I don't like the idea of selling to Citeh, as they are one of our rivals now, but if they're willing to take Ade & Toure off our hands for a combined fee of around £40m  then I can understand Arsenal biting their hand off to do the deal!

But he was a major part of a team that went undefeated so the 'if ever comment' is an error

We shold replace Toure with Hangaland who we could get for about £15 million and then try and get a DM and Vucinic and that could cost about £30 million which is £5 million more than we have sold but we could sell Eboue or Senderos to make up the difference.

We should bring in Hangeland & Hintelaar.
That would be perfect!

Like most on here I will be sad to see him go but £14m is too good to turn down :( However, unlike most other Gooners, I am now firmly in the lets sell both kolo and gallas camp - the way I see it is that if vermaelen is considered as a 1st choice then pairing him with gallas doesnt solve any of last seasons woes  In my opinion we either start him with djouru and have gallas as a back up (cant see gallas accepting that can you ? ) or we go out any buy that mythical big dominating centre back to play alongside our new belgian defender.

Gallas and toure both have a year left on their contracts, Gallas is a far better player and we can make more money on selling toure.

Great deal if you ask me.

Toure great player for arsenal we be sad for him to go, but its needed to make cash for new players. (hopefully)

It seems that man city dont mind paying for our stadium! but seriously dont think we should sell toure to city thats like taking a backwards step just for the cash.
