As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Have to Agree Wenger knows, its basically going to be a 20 million pound pay day if we finish the job tomorrow night, so no excuse for not getting on the blower as soon as the final whistle goes! I wouldn't be suprised if the lawyers already had contracts drafted (if we are buying someone) with a champions league qualification clause, this is obviously assuming that Wenger isn't happy wi the squad
Personally, I think sod Martins and Anelka, I'd rather see the money on a centre back! What if injury prone Gallas gets injured during the ACN?????
Senderos and Gilberto at the heart of the defence?! Champions league, we'd be having a laugh!
Perhaps we will get a new Baptista in Inter striker Adriano who Inter are willing to sell for £10m which would be a good deal or on a season long loan just to keep him playing games.
He had an off season last season but he is a guy with real strength and pace and will get you twenty plus goals a season.
Us, Newcastle and Man City are reported to be interested.

adriano is another baptista. more interested wit nite clubs then football clubs
2 or 3 years ago Adriano would have been a great buy but now he is overweight and has admitted that his problems last season had a lot to do with alcohol. Given wenger's firm policy of little or no alcohol I cannot really see that moving happening can you ?
I see where edelman has been saying that when the accounts are published next month they will impress the biggest businessmen in uk as they are raking in far more than the interest repayments. So it appears that while we are going all out to impress these business people with our acconts the team is going to suffer through lack of investment and we the fans will be watching a team that would be hard pressed to win the championship much less the champions league(slight exageration maybe). If this is really the case then you have to wonder really if the xtra £20m revenue from champs lge group stages will make any difference to wengers transfer policy. I have to say that it really is getting pathetic the way the football end of this big club is being run and yet we as fans are supposed to sit back, pay our money and be happy ? Ur having a laff ! It is funny that will all the criticisms that the glazier style takeovers recieve for the way the repayments are being transferred to the clubs, we have built a stadium at huge cost with the repayments being met by fleecing the fans and cutting back big time in squad investments all so these c*nts on the board can make a massive killing when they sell their shares on the back of these wonderful accounts that we are about to publish all to the detrimental to the team might I add. Does make you reconsider where the priorities of these self confessed custodians of the club lie dont it ?
Well my hope would be that as income is far outweighing the interest payments then we can afford to spend these lump sms rather than retain them to make up any possible defecit in monthly payments
I find it amazing that the motives of the board, that have done so much, refused to sell out to Kronkane and have not taken a penny from the club are having their motives questioned. If the accounts are as good as they are saying then yay, quicker we can pay off the debt and more money Arsene to spend should he want to spend it.

Firstly , prior to the premier leauge being formed football wasn't really big money . The value of ttheir shareholding in Arsenal at that time was a tiny tiny fraction of their total net worth . In recent times that has all changed and now their shareholdings are worth serious money ( even for wealthy individuals like themselves ) . If the major shareholders are indeed decideing to sell out in a year or two , it is very likely they want the books to look as good as possible . an extra 1 million profit usually means the selling price of the business goes up by 8-10 million due to multipliers being applied when determining the value of a business .
I admire Arsenal's prudent financial policy but this year it seems beyond absurd . I dont think any of us wants to spend 40 or 50 million pounds , but considering the players we have sold , wage bill reduced and increased revenue from gates , tv . we could easily have spent atleast 25 million more without jeopardizing our clubs long term finacial situation .
i cant help aggreeing with some of the posters that this absolute refusal to loosen the purse strings is part of plan to make the books look as good as possible for the eventual sale . The irony of the situation is that due to the board not spending on players / wages the eventual selling price of the club will be higher . The higher the value the club is sold for the worse it is for the club itself because the buyout will be finaced with debt and a higher selling price = more debt = more interest payments to finance that debt . The only winners will be the current shareholders who will make an absolute killing .
Absolutely right, Magic Hat. Whether they get their decisions right or not, to suggest board members and major shareholders who haven't taken a dividend for years are thieves is OTT and wrong.
The club have money, it's up to Arsene to decide whether and when he wants to spend it. Whether we like it or not, he's got a clear idea of a team built from youth levels and he wants to see that through. Given how much success and quality football he's given us over the past 10 years, I reckon he deserves some latitude.
Personally, I don't think we'll win the league this year, but it's going to be very interesting to watch the team try. They're already looking much more convincing as a team than they did before, though I would accept we could do with another left-sided midfielder (and it would also be good to get rid of Alexandre Song).
Remember how United were written off in the summer of 2006? Could be us this season, you never know...
Another thing in the board's favour is that if Arsene signs a new contract, which seems inevitable, I doubt it would happen if the board were cutting his transfer budget to a ridiculous extent, Arsene would see out his contract and leave.
Yes the share prices have gone up, beyond anyone's expectations but that was the situation for so long, however when have the board acted like they wanted to sell their entire control or made any attempt to sell? When have they not dug in for money needed by Arsene? They have worked hard and are now suffering due to have faith in their manager and for the club being rich. Shouldn't we be praising them for getting the finances in good condition so quickly?
Seriously starting to gripe me now that we are not in the hunt for players that could genuinely improve and bolster our squad!
Im not saying he would be good for us at all but now I see the West Sham are talking to Adriano and it strikes me that smaller clubs are being more progressive than us!
IF WE ARE SKINT JUST FUCKING TELL US AND WE WILL CHANGE OUR ATTITUDE ABOUT SIGNINGS AND TRANSFER POLICY! WE ARE ARSENAL AND UNTIL SOMEONE TELLS ME THAT WE HAVE A TRANSFER KITTY LIKE WREXHAM'S I WILL KEEP EXPECTING US TO BE TRYING TO RECRUIT WORLS CLASS PLAYERS!
