Why have Arsenal always been tight

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Seems to me that our club are doing things that are good for our long-term future.

Winning (or purchasing) silverware is not the only way a club is measured.

We have won fuck all for a few years. But we have come very close to it. And we have played football which is admired the world over.

We have a sound financial strategy in place. One of the best managers in the world (being human, he does make a few mistakes). A new stadium. And about £300million of managable debt.

Man Utd - working up towards a £billion debt. Likely to sell Old Trafford and then lease it back. No more fat chequebook for players/wages. Ferguson losing the plot completely.

Chelsea - even the mega-rich Russian is curtailing their previously ridiculous spending. And the backbone of the team is getting a little old.

Liverpool - same level of debt as us. But no new stadium. And a manager who they can't even afford to sack. Likely to miss champions league next season.

Man City - early days. But Arab investment not yet paying off. Interesting that Dubai has overextended itself with the stupid mega hotel complex. Has not met the massive loan repayments for it. There will be reprocussions. And they don't own their own stadium.

West Ham - £100million in debt. £40million of which is owed to other football clubs. Now taken over by genuine (British) West Ham supporters. They are looking for extra investment from elsewhere. And the Icelandic bank still owns half. Hoping to move to the new stadium built for the Olympics. They will be paying rent forevermore. If it comes off.

Pompey - unpaid debts to the taxman/vatman. Winding-up order upheld in court today. They are fucked. Poor bastards.

As a Gooner, would I want to swap places with any of the above clubs?

Nope.[/b]

because other clubs have fucked it up royaly it doesnt mean that how we have done it is perfect. Im all for protecting the future of Arsenal but small investment in this current team gives us a much better chance of silverwear which in itself will generate more money, before anyone says it i know Leeds bet their future on winning the difference is we are so close currently

Thank you, Brazilian :D

Can't believe I missed an opportunity to rubbish Sp*rs, though!

For the record they are shite. And spending far too much money investing in more shite. Van Cheatalot being the latest howler :D

The shite new stadium will probably never be built. Which is good. I have some very fond memories of my visits to the Drain. :D

Well I would swap with Man Utd, knowing that we'd won 3 titles in a row, a Champion's League and FA Cup in the past 3 years!!!

Also, when it comes to the finances, remember, United are in debt not due to over-spending, but because of the way the Glaziers financed the takeover. However, even if the brown stuff hit the fan I'd still be confident that the club would survive in much the same shape because some other multi-billionaire would take over. Can we be certain the same would apply to Arsenal were Kroenke or Usmanov to take control and used the club's assets as collaterial? And if not, does it mean all this prudence has been for the sake of the club's financial well being, or the share-holders?

As for Chelsea, the argument seems to have gone from them being 'fucked when Roman gets bored because of their debts' to 'well, their side is a bit old and maybe he won't spend as much'!! The thing is, having already strengthened their first team squad and youth set-up, he won't need to!! :banghead: :banghead:
