Hmmm... Well I went to a NHS quit thingy, whereby you go into a group firstly, to discuss, my main problem with quitting was I could do it with patches but would start again when then course had run it's course (usually 6-8 weeks)
So they just said, don't take any notice of that, and use the products longer, they also said that you could use patches/gum/losenges, so I was on the whole lot at the start. Top dozes of those 3 products, now nearly a year later, I'm on gum (lowest strength, which I have occassionally and a patch (lowest strength from time to time) Also gave up the booze for around 2 months, as I associated that with smoking (and smoking loads) If I go to the pub now, I bung a low strength patch on, and make sure I've got plenty of gum with me, although 1 stick normally does the trick.
My girlfriend quit at the same time as me, and she had the pill called Champix, and she said it was excellent, you can also smoke on them, but it does something to the brain receptors, and just makes you forget about smoking, and didn't suffer any side effects, and she's been quit nearly a year also.
The only side effects I had, were crazy, trippy dreams on the full strength 24 hour patches, they were brilliant, but subsided when I cut the strength down on them.
Anyway, good luck with it, and I hope the above information helps you a bit.
I had the same last night, 3 of them in fact! I wasn't able to sleep properly though.
Heard a lot about this Champix, someone at work gave up with that stuff.
Still not had a fag and I've been awake 9 hours!

Another couple of things:-
Patches, I couldn't take to the plaster type ones, I used to come out in a rash, so just used the clear patches thereafter.
Gum, the original is shit, the mint not bad, but the fruit flavoured one is the best imo.
I gave up 4 years ago and found it a real pain the arse for about a week but it got easier after that. For the first few days, you cough up a load of shit and your throat hurts a bit but just think that it's the first step to your body getting better. I found that breaking old routines helped, I stopped going for a drink for a bit until I knew I could handle it and found a few replacements like a nice cup of tea when I fancied a smoke. It's the old saying of one day at a time but it did work and suddenly, I stopped thinking about smoking. Good luck, mate. It's a tough time but take it slowly, don't worry about cravings and for fuck's sake, don't smoke!!

Today made 13 weeks since I gave up. Been using lozenges (I was allergic to patches!). There are now several minutes when I don't think about smoking although now I dream about it
