my trip to Bucharest

Post by Dicko »

I didn't take any detours into Amsterdam just stayed at the IBIS on Monday night.

Just after posting here I found out my flight was delayed by 40 mins. I got a text from my mate who had already landed. In the end it was delayed by 1 hour. I had a pick-up at the airport (had e-mail the company I booked with about the hotel shuttle they mentioned on the hotel description but wasn't sure from their reply whether I'd had one booked) to take me to my hotel. However during the journey the manager of the hotel phoned the driver and I was passed the phone. I was on my own and had booked the hotel because I knew people that were staying there. He tells me that my hotel room was flooded & therefore was no good for that night so they were sending me to a different hotel. I had no idea where this new hotel was. I got there and was a posh 4* place but out of town near the other airport.

I had booked the coaches from the centre with Arsenal and quickly dumped my stuff, put my shirt on and got into a taxi to try and catch the coaches. The traffic was awful though and 45 mins I arrived at the coach point with the coaches having left 15 mins earlier (my friend had been on the phone). I feared I would have to walk all the way from there (2km) on my own but the taxi driver said he could take me on and dropped me outside the ground at a cost of about £7. I crossed the road and asked a steward where the Arsenal end was and was told to wait there before getting a personal two policeman escort all the way round to our end which after coming off the main road was up a dark lane.

Once inside the ground I was hoping for some food but the only refreshments they had were pumpkin seeds and pepsi!!! The steps up to the seats were crumbling. I bumped into Alex gooner seller and a mate that was staying at my original hotel. We had a visit from Keith Edleman to inspect the facilities :!: I went down the front of the seats to watch the match with my mate Maz. There was a big contingent of Arsenal Bulgeria supporters club and also Arsenal Serbia. They made lots of noise and carried us through the rather stale match. I was glad to see RVP had passed his fitness test and shocked to see Helb had recovered from his knock versus West Ham. I watched Super Nick warm-up in front of me and eventually RVP scoring.

Afterwards we were kept in the ground for ages as usual and I did spot gooner-ed at the top of the stand. Took the coaches Arsenal organised back to the Parliament building and then a taxi to the Dubliner pub which the guys in my original hotel had been in earlier. It was a little quiet but we had a couple of celebratory beers before they closed. I started to walk with Maz to her hotel but it was a little far so we flagged a taxi down to take us back to hers and then mine. I ordered some room service as I was very hungry.

Next day she was off to the airport mid-morning so I got a taxi to the original hotel and met up with my two mates there. They were just rising and wanted to go back to the Dubliner for food. After a while in there I left them there and went for a walk to see a bit of the centre. I went on a circluar walk to see a bit of the city. I just saw some ugly buildings and then every now again a beautiful one which was either a church or a museum. I returned to the Dubliner after about an hour and a quarter and shortly after we headed back to the airport to fly back via Amsterdam with not much gap between the two flights.

Prague is not bleak it is beautiful. Bucharest was less so, I didn't get a lot of time to explore! The people there were very friendly. When I said I had a personal police escort it wasn't to the cells

It wasn't a nightmare as such just not quite as planned and I got a better deal over the hotel and the taxis were cheap.

My friend had Ade Cool on the back of her shirt and a group of lads were shouting an Ade Cool chant over to us. Some of them were on my plane back and started it at me!!!
