As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Aren't there increased number or rows inbetween home and away fans? and stuff like that. (I don't tend to notice these things at the time )
There'll be a logical explanation, I'm sure.
No!
Aliens, perhaps? Or something to do with the middle east?
Firstly they announce it as ATTENDANCE, that is clearly wrong. Against Orient for instance there was clearly somewhere around the 45-48,000 in attendance.
Secondly, from a health and safety point of view it must be borderline illegal to announce there are 60,000 in the ground when there are nowhere near that. If a bomb went off, would the club be able to provide accurate figures to the emergency services? Using electronic entry systems means they should be able to say EXACTLY how many are in attendance and what seats they are sitting in, this is different to tickets sold.
I think what the club do is both wrong and misleading.
It doesn't particularly bother me, in fact it usually provides a good chuckle in the 85th minute. But, as has been said, I do think it makes Arsenal look like wankers...
Why not announce both tickets sold & actual attendance? Or would that be too embarrassing for the club to admit that for some reason or other, several thousand fans would rather be somewhere else?
If season tickets holders or corporate boxes know their seats aren't going to be used could they not let the club know who could then give the tickets to local schools or something. Looks awful seeing so many empty seats when local kids would love the idea of getting into a game free of charge.
It really pissed me off. I was away last week when tickets went on sale. Came back on Monday, logged on to dotcom to see the match was sold out. Tuned in last night to see what must have been ten to fifteen thousand empty seats.
I can't have it that every empty seat at the ground last night was a season ticket holder who just didn't bother going.

They have a stadium control room, tons of cameras, lots of stewards and first aid people.
I reckon they know as much about how many people are in the ground and where those people are in the ground as any club in the world.

there were literally hundreds on the ticket exchange mate
Why bother announcing these figures though ? I think it is fair to say that in the eyes of tickets sales people most if not all games are sell outs so is there a need to announce 60,000 + attendance for every game cos it aint as if we want or need to hear it
Lying through our teeth like this, and it is lying once they use the word attendance, just makes the club look like lying bastards and tbh I find it embarassing Maybe it helps the club avoid looking at possible reasons why (according to bbc 5 live) the stadium was somewhere between 50%-66% full last night

Im not entirely sure how it works as I've never used it but did you check out the TX?

If the taxman demands the official attendance to be on number of tickets sold then what can the club do?
I dont know how true that is but it makes sense when you consider how often clubs used to pretend to have lower attendances so as to save tax money.
As someone pointed out above, often for these games where the stadium clearly isn't full it actually says "sold out" on the box office when you try to get a ticket before the game. I've experienced this myself. Why would the club con themselves out of gate receipts by pretending to be sold out when they're not?
This is a non issue and the truly embarrasing thing is people getting wound up by it

The taxman might well need to know the "official attendance" but unless he is actually at the games why bother announcing it at the match ? I am not wound up at this but I just dont see the point and I am sure the taxman must do more investigations into ticket sales than just accepting the fgures being called out at the match so what purpose does it actually serve ?
Let's be honest here, none of you are actually really bothered by a 'security threat' or are looking out in the best interests of other people in an emergency case. It's just another stick to bash Arsenal with and have a good old moan about. Don't pretend it to be anything other than that.
